alternate for remington .452, swc, plated bullet
Hello,
I choked down 1000 of the Remington .452, SWC, plated bullets, my wallet still hurts. Does anybody know of a copy for these? Thanks

I don't know anyone else making a JACKETED (not plated) SWC 45 bullet. The Rem's are really good. Most people shoot JHP for similar accuracy.
Re: alternate for remington .452, swc, plated bullet
Federal is the only manufacturer / commercial loader that has that bullet and they as a generally don't sell the bullet by itself. Great bullet and ammo but pricey at best.

Remington used to sell that bullet in bulk. Great bullet. Haven't seen any in an long time. Still have a few I loaded up just to test good guns.

Thanks on the Berry's info. I had not heard good reviews on Berry's bullets. If anybody has used these I would like to know how they did. Thanks

Not these but I have had good luck with some of Berry's products and not so much with others. Also it might have been when I changed to a stepped PTU that the plated bullets worked well. I may have been deforming them before that.kohlerpartsgod wrote:Thanks on the Berry's info. I had not heard good reviews on Berry's bullets. Re: alternate for remington .452, swc, plated bullet
Greetings,
I have not been able to get X-ring results with plated bullets.
As Jon mentioned, the Nosler 185 JHP bullets shoot very well.
I have not shot the Nosler myself, being cheap; but, I have seen groups from other shooters that are very convincing.
Cheers,
Dave

How did you load them? I have 2000 bulk but haven't had great luck yet so they sat 15 years.
Were yours oversize?
Best RR groups were with 5.2 BE, like shooting TZZ ball!

Speer makes that bullet in 185 and 200gr. I have a pretty good supply because Midway has been having sales on both.

Len, how do the Speer bullets shoot compared to, say, the Nosler/Zero 185 JHP?

Re: alternate for remington .452, swc, plated bullet
Interesting question. I like them in my 1911's because they are easy to score, accurate and have no exposure to lead. I would not say they are more accurate then Zero/Nosler JHP's. I guess it would just be preference. They are also legal for EIC matches. All that said I mostly use L-SWCHP now but that isn't what the OP was asking.

Best shooting bullet I ever loaded was the Hornady 200 JSWC with 4.8 BE out of my model 1955. The 200 was the older style with exposed base.
I have a few 1000 185 of this bullet to try someday.

4.6 GR OF WST OR 4.3 GR OF VV310. BOTH ARE GREAT AT 50YDS. JPbruce martindale wrote:Hi Don,Dr.Don wrote:Remington used to sell that bullet in bulk. Great bullet. Haven't seen any in an long time. Still have a few I loaded up just to test good guns.

Why not try the Magnus #801, its a similar profile but in lead only. Terry I believe wanted to make a lead copy of the Federal Match bullet. It performs very well.

Bruce,
I loaded the 185 Remingtons with 4.0 to 4.3 of Bullseye. Anywhere in that range shot very well for me.

Don, Did the case brand matter? I suspect it does. Thanks
Re: alternate for remington .452, swc, plated bullet
Isn't the Federal 185 gr FMJWC match bullet almost identical to the H&G#130.zanemoseley wrote:Why not try the Magnus #801, its a similar profile but in lead only. Terry I believe wanted to make a lead copy of the Federal Match bullet. It performs very well.
If not, does anybody know the differences.

Bruce, I used Fed brass consistently because that is what I had access to. Not sure it would matter which brand if it is near factory length and consistent headstamps for the long line.
