45 load length to shoulder
Hi, starting to reload again for my Masaki wad gun. I,ve lost my notes and looking for suggestions on bullet seating depth. I seem to remember with slwc's that some of the shoulder should be above the case mouth. Can anyone suggest how much?
Thanks Scott

From the base of the brass to the shoulder should be about .920". Start there and tweak if needed. That will leave about 1/32" of shoulder exposed.

You can do the plunk test. Drop the loaded cartridge into the chamber of the removed barrel. The case should be flush with the hood of the barrel. This starts the lead in the rifling and headspaces on the bullet instead of the case.

If they fall below the hood on a plunk test is that a bad thing? Mine do and wondering if I should lengthen them a bit

No, don't worry about it. Revolvers shoot just fine with the bullet half an inch from the lands.lablover wrote:Well crapjames r chapman wrote:Yes

Leave them alone. 45 is forgiving about long headspace.
If they feed good and pistol is functioning reliably your good to go.

I’m not suggesting pulling bullets, just making your new ones longer.

If you lengthen the cartridges, don't forget they also have to fit in the magazine.
