Can a ultradot matchdot hold up to a 45
Hi
I have a ultradot matchdot 30 mm on my 22 and really like it.
I mounted another one on my 45 slide mount and I don't think I got 500 rounds out of it before the dot wouldn't hold adjustment.
Not sure if this is a single event or if they just can't take the shaking from the slide. I hesitate to buy another one and have that not last very long.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated , Tom

I've had them on 45s on and off quite a bit.. no issues at all. Granted these were older units.

I have a newer MD II sitting in my safe that failed (disappearing dot), it failed again after being repaired. Older ones work fine.

OK thanks
The one I have is an older one that failed.
So I'm guessing the new ones aren't as good, so I should refrain from buying one.
Can I get a recommendation on a good quality dot to buy that has no issues ?
Thanks, Tom

+1 on Aimpoint. Pricey but worth the money.

I used to use the newer Ultradots and they worked okay - the gun certainly didn’t effect the unit. But I found a better quality in the older ones and have since switched to those. They will hold up fine on a 45. People have been using them on 45’s a long time.

Is there an Aimpoint with a 4MOA dot that's actually available? I remember looking into them not too long ago and discovering that all the Aimpoints that people raved about had tiny speck dots. My hold moves too much to watch that little flyspeck dance around like that.

I been shooting the same Matchdots for 6yrs on both guns with no issues at all. They are the only dots I've used so far, but I been wondering about those Aimpoint H1 or is it H2 they make, but they don't have tube on either end.
I am trying the 2mil setting and agree it does dance around some. I'm probably going back to the 4 mil setting because I like a wider front sight when using irons and it's easier for me to shoot. I guess everything has a learning curve.

I've had four of them fail on me.
One puked on the line at Perry.

Re: Can a ultradot matchdot hold up to a 45
I used low Burris Xtreme Tacticle rings on my Matchdots I could remove and replace and hold perfect zero. So after I had 3 dot failures during matches (2 on the same dot after being repaired), I set up 2 spare Matchdots with rings, 1 for my 22 and 1 for my 45 all zeroed in and ready to go. I carried those spares for about 6 months before I converted to Aimpoint as stated in my earlier post.

ps. all my Matchdot IIs failures were frame mounted
