Sight adjustment, 25-50 yards.
I’m thinking of shooting my model 14 for CF at an outdoor 2700 this weekend. I’ve been shooting indoor league at 25 yards. I’d like some idea oh how many clicks to raise the rear sight for 50 yd. slow fire. Shooting 148 hbwc, 2.8 Bullseye.
Thanks, Kurt

I don't shoot 148 hbwc outdoors at 50 yds because I was getting keyholes. So I gave up and just shot 158 swc with 3.2 BE. A good load I like now is 3.4 WST and 3.0 WST and I don't mess with the sight setting. My M14 has a 6" barrel. For indoors I like your bullet and load, it's accurate and fun to shoot. Good luck to you.

I go up three clicks for 50 yards with that load.kjanracing wrote:I’m thinking of shooting my model 14 for CF at an outdoor 2700 this weekend. I’ve been shooting indoor league at 25 yards. Thanks. I haven't shot the 14 at 50 yards. It will be interesting.

Stan,
Are you really getting "keyholed" bullets at 50yds, or are you just seeing offcenter "scuffs" from the base, due to yaw? The latter are typical of HBWC's from standard S&W's, but still can be quite accurate. Look for fc60's recent pictures of 32 cal. targets. Bullets show yaw yet pound the X-ring. If you are getting truly keyholed bullets, then you have serious problems somewhere. There are several recent (and older) threads here on loading 38 Spl HBWC, which should help.

If it’s keyholing your bore is probably leaded up.

Thanks Sharkdoctor, maybe that was a wrong term for what you call scuffing. Some of those looked like there was 2 bullets going through the same hole. I will look up some of those old post also.
I like what Tuco said in the bathtub also "When you have to shoot, shoot - don't talk so much." Tuco, in "The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly"
Thanks much, Stan
