Center hold at 50 yards with iron sights
Just curious if anyone is using center hold at 50 yards with iron sights. After experimenting for a bit , I find that center works better for me at 25 ( timed and rapid fire) . Trying it at 50 with decent results. I am still somewhat new to BE and need all the help I can get. LOL

I hold center hold 25 and 50. Always have. I have tried about a bazillion times to switch to a 6:00 hold but my mind won't let me. All my red dots are shot center hold. All my hunting is shot center hold. I suppose there would be no problem just doing it for slow fire but the adjustments on the sights would be a pain. YMMV

+1 on Center hold but I don't have a problem losing the front sight with the black background. I have a very clearly defined scratch on my front sight - I learned that trick shooting High Power rifle.

I do.
I never managed to do better than 2639 with iron sights, so YMMV.

I am not as near as experienced as most people here , but I just feel better aiming center at long and at short line. My optometrist set up my shooting glasses optimal for seeing my front sight sharp. Also , I accept my wobble and concentrate on the trigger and follow through . I CAN shoot six o'clock at 50 if I had to , but at 25 with much less time allowed , I feel way better holding center.
My friend who shoots with me always holds center at 25 and sub six o'clock at 50 . I will try it next.

Center hold works better in varying light conditions and with old eyes where the front sight is sharp but the target fuzzy. The sight picture should be identical at both distances, anyway.

I hold center once in a while. But I consider it like a new gun syndrome to help channel concentration onto something new. Sort of a mental refresher.

Re: Center hold at 50 yards with iron sights
Back when I was still shooting a lot of AP, I did an extensive amount of shooting & record keeping. I had no preference for center, 6 & sub 6. I only shot one sight picture at a time and at least 3 months shooting daily.
My best scores were with center hold, followed closely by sub 6, and coming in last by a fairly wide margin-6 o-clock. From conversations with much better & more experienced shooters I accepted the results. Most were of the opinon that either the center or sub 6 allowed your mind to accept your natural area of movement. the 6-o-clock gave me too fine a sight picture and I was trying to make the shot perfect instead of accepting my movement and concentrating on the front sight and trigger pressure.
My hardball scores were much better than today, all due to a lot of AP shooting..And 20 year younger eye's.

Re: Center hold at 50 yards with iron sights
I am weird. I shoot center hold at 50 and tight 6 at 25 with 1911. Same with S&W 686 .38sp.
Tight 6 o'clock holds for MkII at both yard lines. Same with my DR Ruger.
The main reason for this oddity is because I don't have to adjust the sights between yard lines.
