Barracks at Camp Perry
It looks like I will be staying in the barracks this year. I have not syayed in them before. Do they have a power outlet for each bunk? Is there room for a small frig? How far are they from the ranges? Or do you need to drive to the ranges? What else do I need to know about them?

1-No, bring an extension outlet to share power with several bunks.
2-Not really.
3-Too far to walk. See map of Perry.
4-mattresses, depends if you can get a new one.

That's not bad at all. It's roughly double the distance from the average parking spot to the average firing point. A dolly will help but isn't required for most of us.

Longer yet when it's hot, or raining, or first relay, or last relay and you have to get back.... Did they mention how flat the ground is between the road and the ready line?

Err....That's the distance to what is the eastern most range (Rodriguez). Check out the walk if you are on the most western range (Viale). There will typically be 4 pistol ranges set up (maybe only 3 this year) and usually 3 ranges are used for the matches. The hotter or wetter it gets, the longer the walk.....

That’s about the left edge of Rodriguez. It would be about double the distance to go to the low end of Viale. But you’d probably have to walk this distance from parking anyway no matter where you get squadded.

I know that's a joke, since as I recall I could probably host a pinewood derby race on that patch of land.

Re: Barracks at Camp Perry
I've been staying in the barracks since I started coming to Perry (2011). Frankly, I see no reason to stay anywhere else. I prefer them to the huts because I need to get up once or twice a night to answer the call, and I don't have to go outside (especially if there's weather) to deal with it. The barracks are air conditioned; have a large fan per room (white noise as much as air circulation); One outlet per two bunks; I always take a dorm refrigerator - have to shift some bunks/lockers left/right a bit, but they no longer assign bunks (at least they didn't last year), so it's easy to spread out. Note, however, there's a common, full size refrigerator in each building. The bunks are not great, but they work. It is within walking distance of the ranges, but we usually drive over there anyway. The biggest complaint is that they didn't have the shooters mess hall last year, and probably won't this year. Hence, breakfast is either the ladies who run the fresh lemonade stand (thank you ladies!!!!) or a run into town. The best thing about the barracks is the camaraderie.

Twin size sheets/blanket, or a sleeping bag. Other good barracks stuff:
Pillow; padlock for locker; hangers; magnetic metal shelf (see harbor freight https://www.harborfreight.com/magnetic-tray-with-screwdriver-holder-red-69319.html ); flashlight; flip-flops (or water shoes for shower); small throw rug; and, if you bunk near me, some Angry Orchard to share!

I slept with my earplugs in when I stayed in the barracks. 20-25 guys in one room snoring, coughing, farting, getting up to pee every hour, there can be a lot of noise. Then the alarms start going off at 4am.

Are civilians allowed to reserve a cot in the barracks, or is it active duty military only?
