Load suggestions for 1:10 twist 9mm CZ Shadow 2
I've got a Shadow 2 which is an upgraded version of the CZ 75. It has a 1:10 twist barrel. I'm thinking of having Cajun Gun Works put their 10x bushing in it and mill the slide for a dot. I've heard with good ammo it will get to about 2" or even under at 50yd. I'm totally new to loading 9mm. What should I start with on a 1:10 twist, 115JHP or 147JHP? Powder recommendation? I like and use a lot of WST but have a feeling its not gonna be the best option for 9mm.

For 50 yard accuracy in my Beretta 9mm service pistol, I've had great luck with the following load: new or once-fired Starline brass, Rem primer, 6.2 gr. Power Pistol, 115 gr. HAP bullet. However, I've never done serious accuracy testing with sandbags or a Ransom Rest for this gun.
For the short line, I like the 147 grain bullets because, believe it or not, they seem to shoot softer with less recoil while still cycling. For this I use a 147 FMJ and about 4.0 gr. of Power Pistol. Brass and primers don't seem to make much of a difference on the short line.
No matter which load(s) you end up trying, I think you'll find that the 9mm likes a powder that burns slower than WST.

So do you find the 115JHP more accurate than the 147JHP, I guess so if you shoot at 50? Do you know if your 92 has a 1:10? I've seen Power Pistol mentioned quite a bit so I'd say it's a pretty safe bet.

100% agreed on the vote for 147 at short line.Bill Treanor wrote:For 50 yard accuracy in my Beretta 9mm service pistol, I've had great luck with the following load: new or once-fired Starline brass, Rem primer, 6.2 gr. I haven't found a 9mm round that I like yet at the long line but if I had to pick today it would be a 115 going about as fast as possible. 6.2gr PP looks like it will do the trick.

Tail of 2 twists:
The 115gr HAP/XTP love my slow twist barrel (1-32) and 1,150FPS using VV330-340 or WSF powder. Never shot a 50yd RR group bigger than 1.25" and several <1". Very snappy load. My 1-10 twist barrel likes the 147gr BBFP @ very soft (almost 38 special velocity) loads of 2.8 WST (frame mount optic). I crank them up to 3.1 for the long line and they hold the X ring @50.
I have never tried 147gr in the slow twist nor 115gr in the fast twist.

See my 5/21/19 post: "Success with Semi-Hot 125 HAP." The S&W 986 5" is 1-10.

In my 1:10 twist p-09 the 115gr xtp and hap are the best, 147 gr bullets are not nearly as accurate and I have tried them all. 6.0gr of power pistol and 4.1 gr of bullseye are the best of the 10 powders I have tried.

Re: Load suggestions for 1:10 twist 9mm CZ Shadow 2
I posted some results in the Equipment Discussion, recent Ransom Rest topic. The 1:10 twist barrel can be pretty accurate with the heavier (147 gr) bullets. In the Sig P210A (also 1:10), I tried slower loads but never got good results shooting anything that was under 900 fps MV. I've had occasional cycling problems (offhand) with a ~920 fps load, which disappear at 950 fps. This with the Sig's factory 10.5# recoil spring. What is your 75's spring weight? If it's 16#, that may need to be lightened. CGW offers other spring weights for 75's. You could also buy a box of 147 gr target loads sold by Atlanta Arms, and test them in the CZ. AA has 147 gr JHP's running 900 fps and one that's a bit faster.

My best 50y load is with Hornady HAP 125gr, going 1024-1040fps. 2" and less. I use Titegroup.
Medium soft recoil, factory recoil spring. CZ75 SP-01.

I've never actually tried a 147 gr. bullet at 50 yards, just on the short line for reduced recoil.
