Wide 1911 grips
Any advice on where to get wide 1911 grips?
Any brands stand out?
I'm thinking of wood, but I guess that's not essential.
It would be nice if they worked with standard grip screws too.
The most comfortable grips I've found so far are from Springfield Armory, and they're just slightly wider, not much. Maybe that's because they're carved with all the fancy decoration (which isn't needed, I'd prefer no decoration).
(If anyone reading this has a pair they no longer use, please let me know and I'll buy them if I haven't already found something.)

Re: Wide 1911 grips
Thanks guys, that is a much better solution to what I'm trying to do.
They are now on order. I didn't know which thickness to buy, so I got both.
Interesting - they also have a thin steel adapter, for blowout protection. Apparently if the gun goes BOOM because of a double load, that part of the explosion attempting to reach your hands through the holes in the frame, is blocked.

Re: Wide 1911 grips
I ordered two pair, one in each of the thicknesses they make - they arrived an hour or so ago. Very, very, very nice. It is a MUCH better idea than what I was planning on doing, and I can continue to use the comfortable grips I already have. Thank you for the suggestion!!DA/SA wrote:1911 stock spacers

Problem solved - the first gun I put them on now fits my hand much better.

Does Nills still make that grip in your photo? I need one more pair, for my Caspian frame. The grips on it now are way too skinny.

Re: Wide 1911 grips
I lied. I just checked out the Nills site. They are 211.00 plus shipping. The dark wood sigs I paid 50 for the last one and 79 for one before that. The light wood grips were 40.00.

Re: Wide 1911 grips
Len,
Sold one set at the swap meet at the Oregon State shoot - where were you?
I think that I've still got 3 sets in hand - 2 folks already enquired - so possibly 1 dark set remaining. I'm away at present. When I get back on about 23Jul19 and know for sure I will PM you. I will be at EEGC on 28Jul19.

Re: Wide 1911 grips
I just sent you an email; I will buy one pair for sure, and will take a second pair if it's still available.
Save the dark pair for Len; I'm not picky about that, so he should get them.
I just sent you another email.
I will take buy one set for sure.
Let Len have first pick.
If you still have a second set for me, I will take that too.

Re: Wide 1911 grips
In the photo I saw of all the guns and grips, there were to larger grips at the bottom that wrap around the back of the gun.NuJudge wrote:If anyone has any more sets of loose wide SIG 1911 grips, please PM me.
I think those are still available - I will send an email to ask if I can post that photo here.

Re: Wide 1911 grips
I have the Sig grips and like them very much. For those interested, take a look at these:

These grips are made by a Turkish company called KSD. I have not handled them but the quality looks good and the price is decent - MRSP for the Sig grips is $125 and the KSD grips are being sold for $105. NFI, just pointing out another choice.
