Best Roll Crimp die for 38 special
Hey all. I've been loading 38 special for revolvers only, but am going to start reloading for an autoloader. What's the best roll crimp die?
Thanks!

You might want to consider taper crimp die for semi-auto as well, Dave.
I use both Redding Competition Micro-adjustable Taper (for 0.357"/0.358" bullets) and Profile (for Remington HBWC) crimp dies.

AP, how deep are you seating rounds for an autoloader with a taper crimp? I've been told to seat just below flush, and I'm not sure this would work with a taper crimp.

THE BEST 3 CRIMP DIE I'VE FOUND FOR 38 WADCUTTERS IS THE REDDING PROFILE CRIMP DIE. GREAT IN 38 PPC GUNS AS WELL AS THE MDL 52. I SEAT JUST BELOW FLUSH . WITH REMINGTON BULLETS IT'S A NECESSITY. IT'S ALSO GREAT WITH STAR OR ZERO BULLETS. JP

Re: Best Roll Crimp die for 38 special
As a concept, I'm trying to load as long as I can for particular gun. Picture represents four different loads for M52. For P240 and Colt Special Midrange I can go a little bit longer. I don't load specifically for revolver (yet), but I would experiment with longer round when I do. None of the rounds loaded with bullets below top of the case. I use stronger crimp on HBWC than on coated DEWC. DEWCs are sized to 0.357" / 0.358".

Re: Best Roll Crimp die for 38 special
I used the same ammo loaded on my Square Deal for PPC/revolver and BE/S&W mdl 52.
I modified a Lee Factory Crimp Die by machining the proper OD and brazing on a washer at the top to fit in the Square Deal crimp station.
Shot some outstanding targets with both guns.
Hope this helps,
Wes
