S&W Model 41 safety
I have had my new model 41 for 8 months now. A few times over the first 6 months my thumb would bump the safety lever and accidentally put the safety on. I thought it was inconvenient but not a big deal. Then a month ago I put on 3D printed ergo grips. Now my thumb is closer to the safety lever and is bumping it all of the time. Sometimes the lever only goes part way to the safe position but still blocks the gun from firing. Then when I move the lever back to the fire position the gun fires immediately!! (my finger is not on the trigger). If the safety lever is moved all of the way to the safe position the safety system works normally.
I already have an RMA to return the pistol to S&W, but I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this?
Also, I expect that others with ergo grips will bump the safety with their thumbs too. What have you dont to fix this?

Re: S&W Model 41 safety
I had to adjust the tension on the flat spring gizmo that holds it in place.
Easy to do but also easy to screw up.
There is a fine line between just right an wrong.
Too light and you have what you're experiencing
A little too much and the safety won't move.

Thanks, I will probably have to do that after my pistol comes back from S&W.

Hello,
This must be an issue with "new" M41s. Historically, it takes a real effort to move that tiny little lever to safe. The rumor was, they were set up that way at the factory so they wouldn't accidentally move in a match.

Believe it or not but I have seen a couple of shooter super glue it in place so it doesn’t move at all! They do it on the SW22 also

Re: S&W Model 41 safety
I only use this gun for bullseye shooting, so a safety is not required and fixing the safety in place would work for me. My concern about doing that is the NRA rules. I thought that if the gun has a safety it has to work?James Hensler wrote:Believe it or not but I have seen a couple of shooter super glue it in place so it doesn’t move at all!
