Ohaus METRIC Powder Scale
Greetings,
Anyone out there that owns one of these scales?
It weighs in GRAMS not Grains.
I have a technical question for you.
Cheers,
Dave

Re: Ohaus METRIC Powder Scale
Most of these metric scales were high school science lab scales. Built on the same basic design. They were only scaled differently.
I have the RCBS dial o grain which was the dil o gram model re scaled.

We have several Ohaus balance beam scales at work. Chemical composition what’s your question?
Nickel or dime bag? Lol

Re: Ohaus METRIC Powder Scale
Dave,
Perhaps to anticipate your question, 1 gram = 15.432 grains. Grains are the same in avoirdupois, troy and apothecarie's systems (Merck Index, 9th Ed.).
Hope that helps.

Hopefully everyone know it's really 16oz to a pound and 7,000 grains to a pound. Getting this wrong could be dangerous.gregbenner wrote:And 12 ounces in a pound

After reading some of these posts, I am beginning to wonder how a few of you folks are generating funds to pay for your shooting hobbies.

Unless it's Troy ounces then there's 14.5833 ounces to a pound. And yes, troy ounces are still used in today's world.
Confused yet?

A Troy pound is lighter that a Avoirdupois pound (12 oz-16oz)
All precious metals are weighed in Troy ounces even to this day.

Re: Ohaus METRIC Powder Scale
Greetings Wobbley,
The brass accessory weight to enable measuring 500 - 1000 GRAMS.
It is the little item stored inside the Aluminum leveling screw.
Ohaus is no help. They threw away all the drawings and spares long ago.
Cheers,
Dave

I like Troy. Guns should be considered precious metals.

Re: Ohaus METRIC Powder Scale
Dave: On another forum there is a reference to a person that “tunes” these very scales for higher precision. I’ll ask over there for more info.

You might try and get in touch with the fellow that sold this unit on ebay..Perhaps he can get you in touch with whoever bought the unit... worth a shot

Re: Ohaus METRIC Powder Scale
I bought one used without knowing they made one in grams. The scale was rigged and calibrated to a homemade pan. The 25 gram weight looks to be original, but cannot say for sure since it is also stamped 50g (wth!). It seems fairly accurate and I’ve checked it with a 50 gram weight. If you’re weighing powder in grains, just save yourself the math headache and get a grain scale.

Re: Ohaus METRIC Powder Scale
25 g would be pretty close to what you would need to balance out at 100 g.. it hangs on the long arm of the scale. If you still have the scale shoot dave a pm. He needs to copy the brass weight...

Re: Ohaus METRIC Powder Scale
Dave,
I think you can make your own accessory weight. Zero the balance and add weight to the pan until you have exactly 500 grams. Now set all the poise to zero. Your pointer will be in its uppermost position. Now carefully adjust the accessory weight that you have made until the pointer is at zero. Initially make your weight slightly on the heavy side. Why wont this work?

Re: Ohaus METRIC Powder Scale
Greetings,
Two snaps and a twist for Speedy396.
With his dimensions I was able to machine an accessory weight for my Ohaus 10.10-10 scale.
Now the scale is complete and ready for action.
Cheers,
Dave
