center fire match 9 38 or 45?
did terrible at jersey state championships. center fire was the worst. thinking of going back to 38 revolver for center fire or just using the 45. opinions?
Re: center fire match 9 38 or 45?
I use to shoot my .38 super in the center fire but my .45 scores suffered so I put the super in the safe and only shoot my .45 and now I'm shooting my .45 much much better .

Some like .32 if you have a conversion unit for your .22. I personally like to shoot my .45 ACP. It's what I shoot the most, and the larger hole sometimes buys you a point or two.

Don't give up on the 9mm. Try 6.4 gr Power Pistol and 115gr HAP/XTP/Zero bullets. If you want to go the 38 then try Hornady 110gr XTP and 4.2 gr Bullseye. That round is more accurate and forgiving then WC loads and a lot easier to use with speed loaders.

I'm back to a Nelson conversion and my 45.
My 22 scores went up slightly with my Pardini, but my CF & 45 scores suffered enough to offset the higher 22 scores, so I went back to a 22 conversion. Interesting my 22 scores didn't drop when I went back to the Nelson but my CF & 45 scores did go back up. I was using a very soft shooting .38 Super for CF but the scores weren't any better than my 45, so I went KISS.

Thanks! I have heard of the 115 gr bullet, never used it. I was using 124 gr nosler with 4.3 grains of Winchester 231. Real good at 25 yards not so at 50.

I use 135 gr. Freedom Munitions hollow point for bullseye. It has low recoil and is very accurate. Give it a try. Their 147 gr. is a good alternative.

At local matches that I shoot for fun I'll sometimes use one of my 1911 38's. If I travel and want to be competitive I shoot the 45. The bigger bullets do make a difference.

Back in the 90's on the old e-mail Bullseye-L, I was shooting high expert and using my S&W model 52-1 for centerfire. I took the advice of more advanced shooters on the list to shoot just two guns for 2700's. I made it to outdoor master sometime later. I don't think that going to 2 guns (.22 and .45ACP) was the only factor in my advancement, but I think it was a factor.
