Interesting observation...700x and BE
I wanted to play with 700x in the 45. Anywhere from 3.5 to 3.7 performed well with 200 gr swc. When I loaded 185 gr H&G 130s, l got a lot more felt recoil. Seems strange although the bearing surface is just a tad longer therefore, the 185s end up seated about 20 thou deeper.
Switching to 3.5 of BE gave me much softer shooting loads.
I will dig up the chronograph data but l recall they were in the 650 fps range.
Wonder why?
Maybe just the peak pressure spike is different ? It can't be only the longer bearing surface and the bullets were from the same melt. I have seen that bullet hardness has an effect to, but these are the same. Thoughts?

I remember the first time I shot 700X. Calif was outta powder during Obama years. A friend gave me some 700X. Shooting my long slide 45 the recoil was harsh compared to the last of my BE powder. I didn't care for it. But when I shot it in a 5-inch gun it was like a whole different powder. If I remember correctly I was only shooting 3.8 - 4.0 grains. Zero ammunition 185 grain jhp uses 700X.

IIRC, 700x is just a tad faster than BE in pistols. In shotgun it is a bit slower being more like Red Dot. Why? Because shotgun wads collapse fast enough to keep the pressure spike low. A solid bullet just can’t move fast enough.

Is this information confirmed by Zero or merely rumor?james r chapman wrote:I believe I heard zero loads now with 700x

Steve Reiter and the owner of Zero Bullets both told me 700x. They had 20,000# of it.

I used to shoot on the Zero silver team before it was dropped and Zero has always used 700X powder. 4.6 to 4.7 grains of it if I recall right. During the powder shortage, Fred even turned to using 8lb bottles to get what he needed. Personally, I am getting 1.5-2 inch groups using 4.6 grains under the JHP at 750 to 770 fps.

I know when I used to shoot Trap I couldn't shoot 700X it gave me a headache. Red Dot was fine but switch to 700X and immediate headache.

Re: Interesting observation...700x and BE
Greetings,
My 45 ACP testing is limited as I have little interest in it.
The old (long discontinued) Winchester 185 FMJWC (with the dimple in the base) also shot very well with Bullseye powder.
The Remington are, I believe, still available.
I only shoot the jacketed bullets to test a barrel. I am too cheap to shoot them in a match.
That 4.5 700X load is what a friend used and I was curious to see what would happen.
Cheers,
Dave
