STRANGE BUNCH OF BRASS??
WHILE LOADING 45's (IT IS THE LOADING SEASON YOU KNOW) , I STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MY PRESS(SO I THOUGHT). I STARTED FINDING PRIMERS NOT ALL THE WAY SEATED AND SUCH. PRIMER SO FAR OUT THE ROUNDS WOULDN'T EJECT OUT OF THE PRESS INTO THE BIN (RL1050). I THOUGHT THE SPENT PRIME WAS NOT BEING REMOVED OR WAS BEING DRAWN BACK INTO THE PRIMER POCKET BY THE DE-CAPPING PIN. SO I CHANGED DE-CAPPING PIN. SAME PROBLEM. SO I CHANGED THE FLEX WASHER ON TOP OF THE DILLON DIE WHICH IS DESIGNED TO SHAKE OFF THE PRIMER OFF THE DE-CAPPING PIN. SAME PROBLEM. SO I TRIED A RCBS, REDDING AND LEE SIZING DIES . STILL THE PROBLEM DIDN'T GO AWAY. FRUSTRATED AND AT MY WITS END( YES I KNOW A SHORT ROPE) I TRIED DE-CAPPING IN A RCBS ROCK CHUCKER WITH A UNIVERSAL DE-CAPPING DIE. LOW AND BEHOLD LOOK WHAT I FOUND. THIS LOT OF BRASS HAD THIS PROBLEM . THE DE-CAPPING PIN WOULD PUNCH OUT THE ANVIL AND THE BOTTOM OF THE PRIMER CUP LEAVING THE SIDE WALL OF THE PRIMER CASE IN THE PRIMER POCKET. SOMETHING I'VE NEVER SEEN BEFORE.
IT'S NOT A PRESS PROBLEM . I WENT TO ANOTHER LOT OF BRASS AND ARE HAVING NO PROBLEMS AT ALL.

Re: STRANGE BUNCH OF BRASS??
According to Dillon:
"A "Ringer" occurs when the end of the primer and the anvil come off during depriming, leaving the sidewall of the primer in the cup. This typically occurs when fired brass gets wet, and cannot quickly dry out. The primer cup corrodes, adhering the primer cup the the primer pocket, and weakening the end of the primer."

So maybe the moral of the story is if you are picking up range brass, do it at an indoor range?

Re: STRANGE BUNCH OF BRASS??
Greetings,
"Wet washing" with the primers in can cause this.
The moisture wicks between the case and primer and corrodes.
I had a similar issue with brass that was left outside in the weather too long.
Cheers,
Dave

Jim:
I've had this happen when reloading some very old Federal 185 Match FMJ Wadcutter stuff in the old red boxes. Long term storage in high humidity, chemistry, whatever, it was a real problem.
I set up the 650 with just the decapper and no primers / reloading dies and ran a couple of hundred cases and sorted out what was messed up versus the ones that came out ok. After the first 200, I decided it was not worth the time and scrapped the rest. (I've got more good brass than I have time.)

wow - good to know, I have a couple hundred rounds of the Monarch red and white boxes. I'll make a note to keep it segregated when I shoot it.
