Nelson 22 Conversion in the house
I received my Nelson conversion from Larry today after a long 14 week wait, and all I could do is unbox it, open it up and lust over it before I had to leave. It's killing me not to be able to get to the range to see how it functions. Wish me luck, I purchased this hoping it's reliable and accurate enough to move my HS Victor to backup status, and a well earned break after being my one and only 22 bullseye pistol for the last 27 yrs. I'll post some photos of it when I get home. Initially, I'm going to mate it to my Kimber frame.

Good luck! Don't get discouraged if it's not 100% out of the box. You'll probably need to play with the recoil and main spring to find the right balance!

I have a bit more faith than that.
Enjoy it, like growing kids they’ll eat most anything

Similar experience - I bought one, but Larry and his son decided the chamber might have some work needed, so I had them send me a brand new replacement, which arrived about ten days or so before I left for India. No chance to check it out, just un-box it, look, and re-box it. ....one more thing to look forward to when I get home. :-)45ACP223 wrote:I received my Nelson conversion from Larry today after a long ...... wait, and all I could do is unbox it, open it up and lust over it before I had to leave. I had a few minutes to mount the Vortex and assemble it on my Kimber before I left for the town. Here is a photo, can't wait to try it out on Friday!

I took delivery of my Nelson back in late September 2019 and have put about 300-400 rounds through it but it ran flawlessly right out of the case.

James, do you see an issue? It's flush with the slide stop lever and it cycles manually ok and locks back. I'll check it again when I return on Friday. Thanks!james r chapman wrote:make sure the slide stop and pin are correctly installed.

The kit comes with two recoil springs. I was told to change mine, then told to change it back. Will start this over again in a few weeks.
Which spring are you guys using?

James, Good to know! My Kimber has a 21# stock mainspring. I've read Nelson's work well with 19-21#.

If you have trouble with it not stripping a round from the magazine, you may need to install a lighter mainspring or trim a coil or two from the mainspring.

Just ran 70 rounds of GECO semi-auto thru my Nelson on an Accuracy x dedicated Lower.
Ran flawlessly.

Re: Nelson 22 Conversion in the house
I finally made it to the range today. After the 1st shot I got a failure to feed. After clearing, it ran flawless for the next 49 rds., with the stock Kimber mainspring (21#) and whatever recoil spring Nelson ships the conversion with. I did have one issue with the magazine. Sometimes it would go right in, and other times I it stopped at the mag release and I had to push the button to allow it to fully seat. Being a new mag and being plastic, I didn't slam it home with my palm in fear that I would screw it up. I mounted the Vortex to it to see if I like it (first time shooting one). So far so good, no issue acquiring the target during timed or rapid fire legs. Only downside to the day was the crappy stock Kimber trigger (5.5# and some creep). It took me about 20 shots just to get the Vortex sighted in. Boy, are the Vortex screw slots tiny, makes it super hard to adjust, and had to keep swapping between my shooting glasses and bifocals (old man issues). I may go back to a UltraDot if it's an issue. Anyway, I was very pleased with the first day of shooting, my slow fire round was a 93 so that's a good start for me, especially shooting indoors with a B2 target. I dropped off the gun off at my bullseye smith on the way home for a trigger job, so it will be a week or so before I get it back. So far, a thumbs up for the Nelson Conversion!
