32 SWL at 50 Yds vs. 32 ACP at 50 Yds
Does anyone have data, target photos or current experience evidencing small groupings with either 32 SWL or 32 ACP at 50 yds? In particular using cast bullets vs. copper plated? Also curious if anyone is having better luck with DEWC or BBWC vs. conventional HBWC in the 32 SWL? And finally, has anyone tried to get good results with 32 SW loads (not SWL) with round-nose bullets shot through a 32 SWL barrel? It seems like a 32 SW load could be loaded very similar to a 32 ACP load in terms of charge, with a round nose bullet similar to 32 ACP. For example, would a 32 SW loaded with 1.7 gr Bullseye and a Hornady 60 XTP give similar results to .32 ACP loaded same (the latter reported to be a hihgly capable (and expensive) load in the Pardini .32 ACP version)?

Re: 32 SWL at 50 Yds vs. 32 ACP at 50 Yds
I will chime in!
I had both a Hammerli 280 in SWL and a Pardini in 32ACP at the same time for well over a year. Here is what I personally think. The ACP out shot the SWL with every type, powder, bullet type, and charge! I tried everything the best I could get was 7-8 10’s and some tight 9’s with the SWL. The ACP holds just over the X ring!
In the wind don’t even try the SWL because it is to slow and the wind really eats it up! The wind doesn’t seem to effect the ACP.
I finally came to grips the the Pardini was a better package 22/32 so I just sold my Hammerli last week! Hope this helps

Several people at Canton McKinley have been trying to get accurate 50 yard loads with lead with no success.

I have always been told and believed that size didn’t matter...so it’s wasn’t meant as negative for the folks with “little guns”. I was merely passing on some recommendations from Larry and Curly to a friend.

Here is some testing I did in 32acp shortly after the coated T&B bullets came out.

Maybe? I don’t know if I was the highest 32 shooter or not! If I can continue to gain a point here and there I might have something to talk aboutjames r chapman wrote:And a 45 hole over every one of your 32 holes out scored you!!James Hensler wrote:My little gun beat 771 people at the Nationals! I’ve never had any luck with commercial cast 32 long bullets, but the cast 64 gr coated T&B SWC in 32ACP will hold the 10 ring in my Ransom Rest.

Re: 32 SWL at 50 Yds vs. 32 ACP at 50 Yds
Greetings Young Wes,
You forced me to locate my swaging punches and verify the diameter.
My nose punch for the 32 ACP is 0.314".
Your 0.312" swaged bullets are a result of me sizing them from 0.314" > 0.312" with my Star Greaser. Not the best option.
The bullet itself has a nose similar to a miniature H&G #130. The base is a close copy of the H&N HBWC bullets.
I cannot recall the weight, likely 60-65 grains, swaged from cast no-groove bullet mould.
Many thanks for posting a real target to answer the original posters request.
Cheers,
Dave

It’s just unfortunate that quality cast bullets like that aren’t available to the rest of us.

Re: 32 SWL at 50 Yds vs. 32 ACP at 50 Yds
Kind of amazing Pardini, Hammerli, Benelli, etc. are still selling .32 SWL when there are no commercial bullets available in the USA that are actually 0.314. One wonders what the EURO shooters are using in their guns for 25 yds? Certainly not Speer Plinkers, which absolutely do not work in a 0.314 barrel.
Also, what are the 32 ACP shooters planning to use now that Hornady is reportedly discontinuing the 60 gr XTP?

The European shooters can still get the very fine H&N bullets. Their gun market is probably mostly European anyway. Also, while I like the 60XTP, the newer 85XTP actually groups tighter in my gun.
