Extended removeable baseplates for S&W 41 magazines
Greetings all,
I have just gone through the S&W 41 magazine modifications to fit my Hammerli 215 and they are complete with the exception of a suitable baseplate to fit the CMM grip adapter. The S&W steel baseplates protrude too far forward, and can not be shortened because the metal is folded over in the front and anything over a few hundredths removed will separate the pieces.
Does anyone know of a replacement S&W baseplate that is extended, but does not protrude as far forward? Does one of the 3-D printing outfits perhaps offer them?

Shapeways. I’ve used them, they work well.

Nope!Outthere wrote:Ed Hall may know.
However, if you do modify the current one into two sections, the important section will still work as intended, keeping the springs in place. If would be less comfortable being inserted, though.

Not familiar with the brand, nothing coming up on searches. Where would I look for these?Greg Walloch wrote:Shapeways. I’ve used them, they work well.

Very cool, I did quite a bit of browsing on there and there's a lot of firearm products. Couldn't find any S&W 41 stuff though.. do you recall the name of the vendor or product?

Shapeways has them for a Hammerli 208(S), but they do not list one for a M-41.

What needs to be done to get the S&W magazine to work in the Hammerli?

Cut a notch in the back for the magazine release, take some material from top of feed lips to clear slide, deepen notch in back of mag for slide, file/sand thickness down for body of mag drop free, and separate baseplate to remove the lip (if you have a CMM grip adapter).
