New Accuracy Standard Proposal
Greetings,
A good day testing today. Sunny, warm and no wind.
I fired five (5) twenty shot groups (I cleaned the barrel after each string and fired five fouling shots.) testing different powder weights. No documented load data, so do not ask what powder.
I used a custom barrel chambered for, cough-cough, 32 ACP mounted in a mechanical fixture.
Distance was 50 yards.
Test bullet was one of my creations. A 65 grain HBSWC swaged from 25:1 alloy (Lead:Tin)
All five groups individually scored 200x19, so no real winners.
If I moved the overlay around several groups would have scored 200x20; but, that's cheating. Basically, each group had one flyer.
Average Velocities ranged from 775.6 to 911.2 FPS
Below is the backing paper from all the testing. 125 Shots in all !!!
Pour me another glass of KoolAid, please....
Cheers,
Dave

That bullet looks like a winner. Maybe shop it around to these lower volume stagers for copying?

I would love to see it and how it was made. Dies? I’m sure you made them yourself.Wobbley wrote:That bullet looks like a winner. Maybe shop it around to these lower volume stagers for copying?

I, too, would love to see a picture of the bullet and the look of the loaded round. Thanks in advance.

If you get a chance, pick up a copy of, "Experiments of a Handgunner" by Walter Roper. Brilliant man, way ahead of his time.
Some very interesting tests shot at 50 yards.

I’m too chicken to experiment with loads that are not well tested. However, when I see stuff from Dave I’m all ears and eyes! I understand him not posting the load data. Better safe than sorry in today’s world.
I am very curious on this swaged bullet...I see a bullet Swage in my future as other local shooters as well are.

Dave this is a barrel mounted to the rest right? Not a pistol?

Leads me to believe it’s in a barrel in his fixture...now we need the barrel.

Yeah I think so and yes it would be nice to get a barrel like this!
Onetime I was watching John Sue use a barrel fixture to find a barrel for his personal wad gun! He tried at least 10 different ones before deciding on one the keyholes 10 shots! I mean it was 1 small damn hole!

Re: New Accuracy Standard Proposal
Greetings,
The barrel is a mystery.
I bought it advertised as a Krieger. Telephoning Krieger, they said they never heard of it.
What I do know is this...
1:13 twist
0.312" groove diameter
0.300" bore diameter
Stainless Steel
32 HRC
Eight lands and grooves
I chambered it to headspace on the rim, not the case mouth.
The pistol it is destined for is a Walther GSP-C Expert with a modified bolt.
Still a lot of work to complete.
So far, it looks promising.
Cheers,
Dave

Greetings,
Groups are okay.
However, load data helps a lot.
Nice sunny day out, where's the chronograph?
Cheers,
Dave

Re: New Accuracy Standard Proposal
Ask and you shall receive
2018 Pardini HP
32 ACP
Hornady XTP 85 grain
1.6 grains of N310
Starline Brass
Federal primers
OAL .910
I am not happy with the chrono spread so I am going to add some crimp
Yeah the groups would look like yours if I put just the barrel in a Ransom Rest but I don’t have one so I just shot my 100% unaltered pistol!

Wow great group! Was this group shot in a pistol or just a barrel?

Re: New Accuracy Standard Proposal
Greetings,
The target was in my archives from when I was testing the Hornady 85 grain bullet.
I only have a Pardini barrel. I cannot afford all the rest of the bits to make it shoot out of hand.
So, yes, the barrel is mounted in a mechanical fixture.
I have conducted tests that demonstrate the accuracy is the same with the barrel tester and the barrel mounted in pistol with a 7x scope off sand bags.
Cheers,
Dave

Re: New Accuracy Standard Proposal
Greetings James,
What brand of chronograph are you using?
I do not have a SmartFone; but, the data formatting is good.
I am currently using a borrowed LabRadar to supplement my testing. Lots of data; however, I need to work on creating reports that I can link with my target scans.
Cheers,
Dave

Is that a stock Pardini barrel with the choke. Also, your load shows higher than AA max. Curious how you came to that.
Trying to stay safe
Thank you

The Accurate test barrel is four inches long.
The Pardini is close to 5" long.
I attribute the increase in velocity to the increased barrel length.
My Pardini barrel does not have the choke applied.
Cheers,
Dave

Re: New Accuracy Standard Proposal
Dave, sorry, I looked back through my notes and confirmed that you used 1.95gr. That jives with the WP Load Data book where they (conservatively) say 1.8gr Max for 695fps and 18,800psi.
So your 1.95gr is producing ~730fps and obviously remarkably consistent results. I recently bought some #2 and have some 85 XTP's - I will try it. I've now got a Star Universal which has been converted to 32ACP and intend to set that up for long line loads. Hope that I can achieve the same level of consistency.
Thanks.
