Need Help with IDing Ball Gun Smith
Picked up a ball gun to use for the Presidents 100 and CMP matches. Very old, but clearly a gunsmith build. I think it may be a Mike Curtis build but I am not sure. Any help would be appreciated.

It looks like R.G. Curtis, not Mike Curtis. How does it shoot?

R.G. Curtis operated out of El Reno, OK in the 80's and into the 90's. He used to come to Perry to set up shop on Commercial Row back in those days.

Not sure how it shoots yet. Just got it yesterday. Going through it, cleaning, oiling and changing old springs for new. The person who did own it said it shot very well.
What was R.G.Curtis's reputation back then?

I bought an R.G. Curtis made Hi-Standard barrel in the 80's at Perry. Made from a Douglas blank. Very accurate.

Greetings,
A name from the past.
I believe R. G. Curtis bought Richard Shockey's old business.
My friend had a Curtis Hard Ball gun and earned his points with it.
Cheers,
Dave

Hi All, The Curtis that bought Richard Shockey's gun shop in El Reno, OK, was named CW. My first wadgun was built by CW back in 1983. Never did know what the initials stood for, as he always went by "CW".

Thanks for the info and blast from the past. I thought that I remembered him from Perry back in the day, but I didn't want to depend on my senile memory.PMcfall wrote:R.G. Sounds like maybe I'm the one with the senile memory, it appears the El Reno pistolsmith was probably CW. I might have one of his old price sheets, I'll check my files.

So far 25 yard testing is a tight X ring with 4.7 BE with Zero 185 JHP COL of 1.24. Time to move to 50 yards for final tuning. I expect it will be acceptable at 50' for CMP matches.
