1911 9mm Target pistol youy guys like?
What 1911 9mm target guns you guy like with adjustable sights ? Why? I am thinking about buying one. I have a Ruger 1911 9mm lightweight commander with fixed sights. All I can say this pistol is outstanding. Extremely accurate and the lighest commander 1911 out there. Never had a failure to feed or anything after 300 rounds. About a 4 pound trigger pull and very crisp.

For bullseye the Beretta used to be the gun to buy but lately, with the rule changes allowing a wider variety for distinguished, soft shooting 1911's seem to be the way to go. Glock, Springfield Armory and Sig offer some nice 9mm's but they don't seem to be largely accepted as target guns.
Selfishly, I have one for sale on the forum. Do your research and, if it interests you, pm me.

Re: 1911 9mm Target pistol youy guys like?
Short of spending big money on a full custom 1911 similar to the excellent one offered by Mike, as far as I can tell there is a bit of a gap in the market.
If your box stock Ruger 1911 9mm commander is "outstanding and extremely accurate", then why not go and buy a Ruger 1911 with target sights? If it already has a good 4lb trigger then you will be ready to compete in EIC Service Pistol.
But, may I humbly suggest that you do a reality check first. Shoot some groups off a rest at 25 and 50 yards with your Ruger using decent match quality ammo (Atlanta Arms is a good source - many others are available). Can you keep all in the black at 50 yards? I will be impressed if you do - and I'm not being mean.
I have a SIG 1911 Tacops which came with a "combat" rear sight (cost about $600 new a couple of years ago). At that time I had not discovered Bullseye and it was just part of a "set" of SIG 1911's I accumulated. Last spring I had Dave Salyer install a KKM barrel, tightened it up, did a bit of trigger work and drilled/tapped for a rail. It shot pretty good with a red dot. Then I tried various different adjustable iron sights - still not got to a perfect set-up, but it will shoot reasonable groups offhand with good ammo. Total expenditure so far probably a bit over $1,000.
Is it good enough to go Distinguished in CMP EIC Service Pistol, probably, but I believe that a mildy accurised 45 SARO with standard iron target sights will beat it.
Is it good enough to be a competitive CF gun in Bullseye 2700. Not with me pulling the trigger, no.
If I was really wanting another 1911 9mm now I would get a new SARO in 9mm and find a good Bullseye gunsmith to accurise it to suit the discipline you want to use it for (CMP EIC Service, NRA CF, etc.).
But, to be honest, other than the novelty factor of owning a decent 9mm, an accurised 45 is just easier to shoot and uses the same ammo as your Bullseye wad gun. My mentor has been preaching that story to me for nearly a year now - he is right - Grrrr........

There are 3 levels of target pistols:
Stock, a good one will take you only so far and there is a lot of variance in the same make & model.
Stock-Accurized -- If done by one of the high-end gunsmiths, can take you to master, maybe even high master.
Full Custom -- Again, by one of the bullseye smiths we all know and love. Top of the line but expensive.
Read the last line of Radjag's post above. As much as I would like to sell my Accuracy X, I agree with him. I find the 45 easier to shoot and the bigger holes make a difference. Plus you only have to master two guns instead of three.
Last thought. If you want to succeed in this sport, get the best gun within your budget and spend your time in the Fundamentals section of this forum. Leave commercial row to the guys with money to burn. Now, if I could only follow my own advice
Good luck!

I've had excellent results with Springfields in .45 ACP from the factory. I thought I'd try a 9mm. It was awful. Would not group in the black at 50 yards of a sandbag with a decent variety of factory ammo. I've heard/read essentially the same story from mutiple people.

Re: 1911 9mm Target pistol youy guys like?
I had an STI rangemaster, bull barrel 9mm that I absolutely loved. Great quality for the price, i think i paid around 1300 for it. The gun was so much fun, I think my next build (way off) will be a cone-sleeve, bull barrel 38 super with a full length dust cover. I had no qualms about selling it because it was a mass production gun (very well made I might add) and I can always find another on gunbroker.

Here is a 9mm that you might like, not a 1911 and AFAIK not eligible for CMP EIC, but will probably shoot very well.

I use a Springfield Range Officer in 9mm. I have changed springs (sear, main, and recoil) to work in concert with each other. My trigger pull is around 2.5# and accuracy is very good.

RO builds into nice 9mm. Using both Kart and KKM I’ve had customers get 1” groups at 50 yds. Hard to beat If on a budget.

Re: 1911 9mm Target pistol youy guys like?
Just my personal experience,...
I bought a CZ 75 single action. Supposedly, an excellent, accurate gun out of the box. Around $600 out the door.
It would not hold the black at 25 yards and the trigger felt like it had four stages.
Time for enhancements. Sights, bushing, trigger, grips, springs, trigger kit and other assorted parts from Cajun Gun Works and CZ Custom, plus gunsmith fitting. A really, really, really nice trigger. It felt like an airgun trigger. Can you say doubles from the recoil? More gunsmithing, more springs, more gunsmith tuning, it has a nice 2 1/2 # trigger. Another $1000+.
A joy to shoot that won't hold the black at 25 yards.
Time for the reloading bench! Dies and caliber conversion from Dillon $120. B-loads of 115, 124, 147 grain bullets, this powder, that powder, another powder. $??? Then a post here asking about loads that earned me a giant 'minus' sign from an admin. (Oh joy!)
Finally! It will hold the black at 25 yards (rested). Ain't no 1.5" gun.
In the end, I have a really nice steel challenge gun that is a pure joy to shoot but will never recoup the $1750+ and time invested.
BTW, this is the most successful 9mm I've had /worked up.
Again, just my personal experience. My humble advice, buy a 45acp.
Maybe this will earn me another big 'minus'!

Some folks have had excellent results with STI Targetmasters in 9mm, using them for the Bianchi Cup, where they shoot out to 50 yards (X-ring on the D-1 tombstone target is 4").
Some folks were getting around 1.5-2.0" groups out of them, stock. Check out the brianenos.com forums for load data and more info in the reloading and the Bianchi Cup sections.

I have two CZ75s. One I know is stock and the other I bought used. Most accurate 9mm and my trigger on the stock gun is good but not great. It also shoots reasonably well with anything I shoot trough it. Maybe not a bullseye pistol out of the box, but certainly better than any beretta 92.

I debated the same thing. Love my 1911s and will own a target grade 9mm built by my favorite smith, but want a hi capacity toy to play with. I've got a CZ TSO in 9mm on the way. It'll probably need the CGW 10X or CZC bushing to make it accurate but they feel good and are great toys.
