October 1989 American Rifleman
Greetings,
I purchased this magazine via eBay as it had an article on Darius 'Doc' Young.
I actually sat down and read the entire magazine. It had many articles related to Bullseye Shooting.
It was great to read about the shooters I used to fire next to at local matches.
What a contrast to the American Rifleman currently offered.
I actually exchanged the hard copy delivery for the electronic version as it is more eco-friendly to delete.
Cheers,
Geezer Dave

Check out the October, 1992, edition if you can find it. You'll see some photos of a handsome young bullseye shooter

Yes, please. I have a hard time imagining that crusty curmudgeon was ever young.
I missed that one somehow, when I was recycling a truckload last year.

You spelled "delightful, charming, and welcoming gentleman" wrong.

I did. We shot in a few matches together, most memorably the 1995 US Olympic Festival in Colorado Springs. I remember prepping for the Free Pistol finals with Chris at that match.

I don't have the paper copy, but yeah, that sounds about right.

Yeah, I'd like to see evidence of that.

I haven't read that magazine in years. I'm going to look that issue up.
Re: October 1989 American Rifleman
I suppose you mixed the dates up because you were in so many A.R. Camp Perry editions but this is what I have found in my stash from Oct97. notice the incorrect record score at the top of the page, 2688-140x. lousy proofreading there.john bickar wrote:Check out the October, 1992, edition if you can find it. Re: October 1989 American Rifleman
I used to enjoy shooting with Jerry Chaney at the Bluegrass Sportsman Club. Seems like after Pete Gillis passed away that Jerry lost all interest in bullseye pistol shooting. I was fortunate enough to bunk with Doc Young several years ago at Port Clinton. I also shot in 2700's with him at Ft. Sam Houston, back in the day, and next to him at Camp Perry a time or two. I really enjoyed his company. There are a lot more bullseye shooters, who for me, were a pleasure to be around and MADE the sport and mattered much more than any scores I ever shot.
