Re: New Distinguished Rifleman
Thank you. It was a hard road.
If anyone ever tells you, “You’ve earned Distinguished Pistol; Distinguished Rifle should be no problem for you!”, send them to me, and I will sing them songs of many First Leathers.

Congrats! I had visions of double at one time. Even got the team to issue me a batch of shooting gear... Rifles, mat, ammo, glove, jacket... That leather jacket and the idea of shooting out in the sun and then working the pits scared me off..

it's not the sun that is so bad as it is the Humidity here in VA, esp using a sweatshirt under the shooting coat
and Congrats to Mr Bickar!!!
Re: New Distinguished Rifleman
The pits are usually shaded, at least.
Yeah, service rifle is not for the faint of heart. I have been on the verge of heat stroke on several occasions. At a recent match, I drank over a gallon of water and I was still dehydrated.

I know that feeling. July at Perry can be rough. July at Quantico or Butner is brutal. Sometimes a gallon of water isn’t anywhere near enough. A Navy Senior Chief Corpsman gave me the advice that if you weren’t peeing at each yardline, you weren’t drinking enough. I Drink water with electrolyte tablets, 1of plain to one of electrolytes. That has helped.

Well, obviously, that's your mistake here! Next time drink Sierra Nevada instead of water. Or at least Hoppe's #9, if Sierra Nevada is not readily available.
Re: New Distinguished Rifleman
Congratulations John. Amazing feat considering your busy schedule. I’m starting to find it difficult to find the time to shoot now that I’m retired.

Great Shooting, John - Congrats!
I, too, had ideas of rifle, but I can't get myself to buy the gear and train...
Glad to see you made it.

Re: New Distinguished Rifleman
Greetings,
Would you be John C. Bickar? International Distinguished in 2001? Badge #446
This makes young John Quadruple Distinguished (International, Rifle, Pistol, and 22lr Pistol).
There are very few that hold this honor.
May I have the privilege of carrying your gun box at the next match?
Cheers,
Curious Dave

Re: New Distinguished Rifleman
Eugene, I drank a quart of Hoppes #9, too!
Thanks, Ed and Norman.
Dave: yes, that’s me. Over 25 years from my first leg points in pistol to my final leg points in rifle.

Congratulations John.
It's interesting that for a state that openly discriminates against semi auto rifles it sure has some good rifleman. It takes solid scores to get above the line there. Coalinga is never an easy day across the course.

That’s a fact, Jack.
At the state high power championships in early May, Matt Early had a 794. He was third. Bob Gill had a 797 and Jared Perry had a 798.

Guess I’ll just have to settle for being the youngest person ever to earn Distinguished Pistol Shot.
