Colt Series 70 1911 Bullseye Pistol On Gun Broker

Saw this Colt Series 70 1911 Colt w/Ultra Dot on Gun Broker. Says built by a gunsmith in the Pittsburg Area. I have no connection to the gun, just sharing info. Could be a good starter or mid-class gun for someone needing a .45 wad gun and may be an X & 10 ringer at 50 yds.--who knows?

I agree it's not going to win any beauty contests, but it may be a shooter. All I know about the gun is what I see in the photos and the description. One cannot always judge a book by its cover. When I started Bullseye shooting more years ago that I care to remember, I'd have been happy to have that gun, (at a lower cost) when I started out on a shoestring budget, I was a second relay guy so I could borrow a wad gun to shoot.Outthere wrote:Looks like crap.

She is a little rough. Like you guys said, looks are no indication about how it will shoot. However, if it has been shot as much as it looks like, it might be likely to need a rework. If I were going to gamble on it, it would be at a lower price.

That scope mount doesn't look like "master gumsmith" work to me.

My personal rule is not to buy a car that looks neglected on the outside and expect the engine to have been well maintained. Looks like a pig in a poke to me. It might be a great shooter or you might own shotguns that group tighter.

Greetings,
My guess is that the pistol was properly built originally.
Then, the scope rail was added by the owner who did not possess the skill to attach it properly.
I have seen to many pistols that have been "accurized" by the owners.
Cheers,
Dave

Coraopolis rings a bell; I'm trying to remember what shooter was from Coraopolis.
The gun in Wes's link looks much nicer and cheaper, but who knows what it will end up going for.

George Madore was a top notch (nowadays they say top tier) pistolsmith. This pistol would be worth over a grand if it hasn't been abused or tinkered with.Wes Lorenz wrote:Here's a nice one: https://www.gunbroker.com/item/869481029
