Brownell's is selling a modular 1911 custom drop-in trigger upgrade.  No, I'm not about to purchase it but I saw it offered in an email today.

Since the number of top 1911 smiths are starting to drop, this might be an option for someone who has to work on their own pistols in between matches.

That's a lot of money, it is cheaper to buy their trigger job tools and use the free instrucitons in their help section.   Even if you only do one trigger and then sell the tools.

Oh I agree about the price!  But its the first complete trigger pack I've ever seen for a 1911.

I see Nighthawk trademarked the term “Fully Machined”.

I'm not interested in it for the trigger job aspect.  However, I do think it's a neat way to keep all the pieces together for easy assembly and disassembly.  I'm tempted to get one to see if it's possible to create an adjustable 2-stage trigger on it.

Maybe this is the future. AR15 drop-in triggers have come a long way. In fact, they make for very good triggers, but pricey. This seems like a very similar concept. I'd love to try one but, not willing to drop that much cash yet. Maybe I'll try the gen ii....

Yeah, maybe, but they are taking away all the fun and joys of tinkering with our favorite pieces of metal! I say esse delendam!

the Brownell's ad says the trigger weight will be 3 3/4-4.0 lbs and doesn't say if it is adjustable so I assume it is not.  With that said, it isn't exactly right for either a wad gun or a ball gun.  Nice idea tho.

Check out https://www.ingeniousgunworks.com/#!

I was very skeptical about it but now I have one in all my 1911's. I have some triggers all the way down to 2lbs and they shoot perfectly. Very cool concept and design in my opinion.

Any experience with the IGW hammer-sear and 2nd Gen bushing among our super gunsmiths on the Forum?

I had a separate thread on this as I found it weirdly interesting. Please describe how the trigger feels. Roll / crisp / drag / smooth, length of pull on the sear engagement? Concept is interesting.

First let me say that I am no trigger expert or 1911 either. When I asked the owner of Ingenious Gunworks what his trigger was he explained that it is more of a crisp trigger with a slight roll to it. In my opinion it feels nice and crisp to me the way I like my triggers. For me the best part is I can adjust the sear spring down pretty low and back up without any problems. Now I have not had thousands of rounds through mine with the new trigger system so I don't know if it will stay that way or not. Time will tell for sure.

Well, that defines good cut on the angles. Glad to hear and thank you for the review!

The link above is fascinating. I’m going to have to order it now.

In the past I have used cylinder & slide firing groups. They have a hammer, sear, disconnector, sear spring And are all tuned together. I’ve been rocking there lightweight comp one for a few years on my target build. Measures around 2.5 lbs right now after about 3k rounds. There only a hint of take up and then the glass breaks. Reset is as smooth, crisp, and audible as the break. I’ve been very happy with it. Way to light for daily carry though.

Have the rules changed on trigger weights for centerfire and .45 matches? If I remember correctly, the minimum trigger weight for centerfire was 3.0 lbs. and .45 was 3.5 lbs. For service pistol it was 4 lbs.

Lots of shooter use the 1911 frame for .22 conversions and run lighter trigger weights.

CMP Match Pistol trigger weight requirements are like NRA Precision Pistol trigger weight requirements.

CMP EIC pistol trigger weights are still the same (4 pounds).

We must read the rules and understand the changes that have occurred when the CMP introduced the "Match Pistol" 2700 type program. Lots of shooters are going to be confused or misunderstand.

Yes, I even have a Marvel conversion, but the .22 setup was never mentioned. The .22 caliber minimum trigger weight is 2#. I was mistaken about the 2.5# weight minimum for centerfire, although I do believe that with the 1911, it still has to weigh 3.5# as the minimum. James, it was hard for these old eyes to read your post, but it looks like these minimum trigger weights are still in effect. I suppose the 4# minimum for service pistols for CMP matches still stands. I just wanted to clarify this. One year I shot next to a Marine at Perry who got weight checked during an on the line spot check. His pistol didn't pass and he had to leave the line.

That symbol is for an unregistered trademark.  I could do A™, E™, I™, O™, U™.  And even sometimes Y™.

Doesn't mean it's enforceable.

drop in trigger pack for 1911 Empty Nowlin Pro Match Trigger Kit

Post by RunningBull 8/9/2020, 2:11 pm

Hi all, I thought I would provide my experience with Nowlin Arms.  Nowlin makes a Pro Match Action Kit. This kit is around $160.  I recently installed one in a new Stainless Colt Government Competition 45ACP. This replaced the MIM hammer, sear, sear spring, disconnector and hammer spring.  Nowlin Arms states this will give a 3-1/2 lbs trigger pull.  My experience after the install was the pull weight was closer to 4 to 4-1/2 lbs but that could be my fault using a digital Lyman gauge. But the trigger has zero roll/creep and breaks as glass, which is what I was wanting. The stock trigger action in the Colt Government Competition was terrible, IMO.
I’m pleased with the outcome. If you can field strip your 1911 then you can have a quality trigger job without a gunsmith.

PS. I did have to fit the stock thumb safety to the new sear.  I used a small file and took my time until it was fitted perfect and the safety worked properly.
