This Season's Ammo Shortage Empty This Season's Ammo Shortage

Post by Orion 2/28/2013, 10:18 am

Where is everyone trying to purchase 22 ammo this season? My inventory is running low.

What will the season look like with the lack of resources available to shooters this year?

you may have to beg and borrow from others who are willing to part with some of what they have. I know others who do and do not have lots of 22 ammo and both are willing to share so we all can make it until the suppliers catch up.

It would be nice if people who have enough to last them more than a year could hold off buying more. This could allow people who do not have enough to make it through the year could buy some ammo at a normal price.

Reach out to some of your shooter friends and ask for some loaner ammo that you will replace when things get back to normal.

Im wondering if you will see across the board scores dropping this year. Im guessing a lot of guys are putting a lot fewer rounds through the pistols at pratice time.

I was just over at Champions Choice and they had SK pistol match in stock. I was also able to buy CCI SV at one of the local shops. Both for normal pre shortage prices. For those that aren't stocked up, it looks like the ammo is coming in but you have to keep an eye on the stores and buy it when it is there. I am planning to get enough to get me through the summer and by then hopefully things will be back to normal.

22 is starting to show up if your diligent in looking, Natchez shooters supply, had some aguila sv yesterday, but limiting buys to 10 items per day, it was 2.92 a box, brick was 44.00 with shipping.

I found a brick of Federal Match .22 at Gander Mountain last night and bought it. $149.00. Now I am wondering if I should have left it there. Does anyone here use it or have experience with it?

Im farly new to the game... Ive never seen aguila SV before. How does it compair to CCI SV? being in NY im now stuck to buying local. no mailorder ammo for us, and with CCI sv being hard to find, Im looking for some other brands that will fuction in my old High Standards.

It looks like before the panic, it sold for $90.00 a brick. I think it is overkill for bullseye pistol shooting, as is any other premium .22 ammo, but if it's all you can get right now...This panic really got a head of steam after the school shootings in New Town. That's only been a couple of months. Hopefully, before summer, the panic will have run it's course and all the panic buyers will be overstocked. The manufacturers will have caught up and product will be piling up on shelves and not moving very fast. Unfortunately for the panic buyers, the prices will come down again and they will be stuck with a lot of overpriced ammo.

Yea, I'm still unable to find any outside gunbroker. I've called every store in town throughout the week and checked every website. 3 bricks left. It's a shame a brick of 22 is going for a few boxes of 45.

Champion choice had yesterday sk pistol match. Champion shooters supply had sk also in stock two days ago. Things move quick so they may be gone. Gunbot.net can help you find ammo but they soundtrack the above two stores.

At coffee this morning a friend said that a local manager at a large fleet store told him that the government has used some law that says while we are at war, the gov. can bar manufactures from selling their product retail. So a back door approach?? Any one have anything on this??

Congress has not declared a state of war and has not put the USA on a war-time footing, as was last done during WWII.

Our club is located in Highland IL, about 60 miles from Zanders Sporting Goods one of the largest wholesale dealers in the US. They are also the sole importer of all Eley ammo. One of our members goes down and gets stuff that the members of the club orders about every two weeks. I have a running order for a case of CCI in plastic pack and a case of Eley Target (the two ammo's I shoot). I have enough to last me about 1 1/2 to 2 years so I don't need any right now. IF any comes in and I am lucky enough to get some I will post here and sell 500rds per member until it is gone for what I paid for it plus shipping. I know not everybody has a chance to buy from a wholesale supplier and this might help a few people. So lets keep our fingers crossed that some .22 ammo comes in!

I was able to find a link via target talk:

http://www.goodshootinginc.com/

They have the SK Rifle Match for about $700 a case. I picked one up about a week ago. Its not cheap but its excellent quality to use for pistol.

Not to be an alarmist but I think its going to take a while longer for ammo to catch up to demand.

The CMP has updated their website to state a 6-12 month delivery for ammo purchased through them.

They don't have the smaller niche bullseye stores, but gunbot.net tracks 22lr ammunition.

I have watched this web site from time to time and am amased at how fast the ammo is gone. This isn't from lack of production but rather the horders and price gougers. Who else would have the time to sit and watch waiting for ammo to appear. Last night I watched Arguila (spelling) box of 5000 disappear in 4 minutes and I'm sure they had more than just a case or two to sell. Tried for 6 minutes the other night to buy 5 boxes of 100 rounds each CCI SV (500 rounds total) from Palmento State Armory to help out the shooters in my club that have run out. It was all gone in that 6 minutes!
That aint from the casual shooter buying it up!

The good news is every once in a while CCi SV starts to show up more and more on this site.

I have given (not sold) ammo to people that I shoot with that are running short and unable to shoot a match for lack of ammo. Friendship is more important to me than deepening my pockets!

The people that are auctioning this ammo off on Gunbroker make me ill, I'm sorry to say. I guess some folks have no scruples--1000 rounds of CCI SV for well over $300.00? Really.
