I appreciate you keeping us all informed. But, I would also like to remind you that we Handloaders are customers too. And we need primers, just like you. A lot of us are competition shooters who load bullet styles that you just don’t make. You make enough 45 230 hardball, 9mm 115 FMJ, 223 55 FMJ etc. and hunting ammo to sink an aircraft carrier. Meanwhile handloaders and competitive shooters get zip.







We’ll see if they respond.

Another feel-good, placating, "we're all in this together" BS message. Without any stats to back it up. 

Competition shooters are irrelevant to them. Not enough money involved.

Unfortunately, competitive shooters are quite relevant to ammo manufacturers - just not precision pistol and bullseye shooters.  You're now competing for loaded ammo and components with IPSC, IDPA, USPSA, 3-Gun, and Steel Challenge shooters not to mention all of the "recreational" shooters out there.  The numbers of competitive Skeet and Trap shooters have been in decline for the last 20 years due to the growth of Sporting Clays and, to some extent, the cost of shooting those events.  Frankly, I didn't hear any "BS" in the Federal CEO's video and appreciate his effort to at least explain what's going on in the business. Just my humble opinion.

It's time for Dillon, rcbs, Redding, etc to start making reloading components.

Does anybody have Stats on the amount of ammunition & components imported into the US?

Haven't seen Aguila, GECO or Lapua  .22's Alerts from Target Sports USA  this year yet. There was some SK available for about an hour.

So they are making ammo at record pace yet none of it is landing on dealer's shelves? Is there some warehouse filled with it? I call BS.

well Walmart must not know there is ammo to be had from manufacture they have not had one box on shelf for three month

I think we are looking at typical market activities, not much different than during the Obama admin and with the toilet paper "shortage" last year.  There are 331 plus million people in the country and when a large number of them decide there is a shortage or will be a shortage of something the demand goes nuts. With primers there are a limited number of makers and importing them is not as simple as other items to import.  A lot of shooters are sitting on huge stockpiles of primers and ammo.  I see people posting on forums that they are worried that they only have 25k of this that or the other thing, that is the behavior that is driving the market plus new shooters.  I think that you will see huge amounts of ammo become available on the market as shooters die and their spouses estates want to get rid of it.  I doubt there are warehouses full of ammo and components being held back and while the CCI guy might be annoying I don't think he is making stuff up.

I've been trying local NY Auction Sites.  They have dies, primers, Components , powder & some loaded ammo. 

I've been bidding and in minutes been outbid.  More being added every day.

My cousin in PA is still able to buy any primers at $40/ 1000; but quantities are limited daily limit.

Big Distributer / Gun Shop. Shydas in Lebanon. Have to be there at 8am when it opens.

I have also seen this in comments on youtube videos. Lots of people saying they have 20,000+ of things and still buying.

I am pretty flush with large pistol and small pistol primers.   Enough to last me probably a couple of years.  

Only problem is, I bought my son in law a Dillon 1100 in 223. for Christmas and we can’t find small rifle primers for love nor money.  I found 5000 large rifle primers in my old safe and would be willing to trade for small  if they were available.   

Ordered the press in mid October.  Isn’t here yet.....

But that’s almost a buck a round!

What store in PA please ?

The photo of the 556 was taken at Gettysburg Trading Post. They seem to have more ammo than any other stores around but the prices are crazy high these days. They also had 2 different kinds of 9mm, 50 rounds for $59.95 each. 22 Federal Auto Match, 325 count boxes were also $60. Funny thing is, people are buying like Armageddon is happening tomorrow. I've watched some purchase several cases.
As  far as components at Shydas in Lebanon, PA(I visit there every week or 2), they have a good selection of powder still available but primers are sad. Last week you were allowed to buy 200 at $6 per hundred and their daily allotment is gone within an hour of them opening.

 PA stores always seem to have more ammo than NY.  Even though they get a lot of people from NJ coming west to buy as well.

I always stopped at Shydas while visiting my cousin in PA. Bought a used Glock 20 there at a good price. They used to have a good selection of new & used guns.

The ammo/primer shortage isn't going away. The video doesn't address the future needs of the sport. Most industries expand when there's a growth forecast in their field. 
Maybe they'll take their 3-15% price increase effective 4/1/2021 and build more production capacity.

These plants are huge and much of the equipment is likely custom made. If they built another plant from scratch it likely wouldn't be producing anything until the next presidential election. 

A year or two ago CCI was running rebates on their primers and 22 ammo signaling to me they weren't exactly selling their full capacity of products. They can't be expected to drop everything and spend tens or hundreds of millions of dollars on new production to fill wildly changing consumer demand. The fault for this shortage is yet again held by the average Joe that panic buys, apparently they didn't learn anything from the Obama 22 scare that lasted years. I'm worried this time may be far worse.

What I don't understand is none of the local stores around here (Walmart, Cabellas, LGS, ranges, etc) are even getting their normal shipments.  Back in Obama days if you were at the stores when they opened you had a chance and getting what had been restocked.  As has been mentioned above our Walmarts haven't gotten ammo in months.  Cabellas doesn't even have an ammo area anymore.  So if the normal places aren't getting their normal shipments where is it all going?

I thought that Walmart discontinued ammo sales some time last year. All of them around me did for sure, as they piled up and sold their remaining inventory at discounted prices to get it off of the shelves. I bought 1000 rounds of Federal 9mm for .15 a round back then.

Did they get back in the ammo business again after that?
