NMC League Week 26
Some very nice 290+ 22 scores turned in for week 25. Only one rather pathetic 45 score.
Week 26 begins today. Get out there and top your personal best!

Re: NMC League Week 26
Ha, nice coincidence. That is a pretty good rapid fire for me and the only shining spot in Saturday's practice session. I don't know why I threw that one 7 up there. I must have lost concentration for a second. Of course then there's that six at 50. Sigh...

Training for a short course match and shot this on Saturday. A CF Personal Best for me, shot it well in the match too, but then failed miserably with the 45, again. Grrrr....

You certainly hammered that first slow fire target. You must be getting the 32 long line thing worked out.

Score Slow Fire: 97 1X
Score Timed Fire: 95 2X
Score Rapid Fire: 97 2X
Total:279 5X 289 5X
(When Tony and I added it, we got 279. I just double-checked. Siri was nicer to me... :-) :-)
Note: I was shooting with my friend Tony this morning, and he was getting lots more holes in the X-ring. I noticed that my dot had a habit of wandering all over the black, and wouldn't stay still. So I made three changes. First, I removed the barrel weight. Then I replaced the Aimpoint H-2 sight with an Ultradot L/T. Weight changed from 2 pounds, 15.8 ounces, down to 2 pounds, 11.0 ounces (no magazine).
I also changed my dry-fire routine, which I set up learn how to not move the gun as I fired. I'm far from perfect about this, but I'm better. The new routine has me "holding" on the bull for 20 seconds, after which I take a 30 second rest. During the first 20, I do whatever I can to get the dot into the center of the bull, and hold it there. Someone's sure to tell me this is a bad habit, but it's the only way I can think of to learn how to keep the dot close to the center of the bull. I've been doing this on and of for about 8 hours now, and I know I'm better now than when I started.
(It's irrelevant, but during much of this time I've been watching the oncoming hurricane, that is going to hit the USA about two hours from now. Horrifying. This makes it difficult to concentrate on what I'm doing with aiming the gun, but I'm hoping my subconscious will take over and do this for me, so I don't want to think about anything as this is happening - when the buzzer goes off, I aim the gun, and when it goes off again, I lower the gun.)
I'm not going to post them here, but I also shot targets at 50 yards, both one handed, and two handed. I was surprised to find that the scores were about the same. I didn't expect that. No need to even think about using an extra hand for the High Standard.

Re: NMC League Week 26
Mike,
Well done, your shooting has improved tremendously. Good to see.
But, and I offer this with the best of intentions, I advise you to order some proper 25 yard Slow Fire B16 targets. (American Target in Denver are probably the cheapest - very fast delivery - but you need to call them to place the order - http://www.americantargetcompany.com). I know that you said your club likes to only shoot on RF targets, but if and when you do venture out to shoot more serious matches you will suffer a bit of a shock when you have to shoot B16's (or 50yd SF targets - even more of a shock!)
It happens that a couple of weeks ago I ran out of B16's and shot a few rounds all on RF targets - I like to keep a reasonably accurate record of my scores and so I created a template in a drawing program which I can use to overlay photos of RF targets. The photos are usually a bit distorted and so I have to adjust them dimensionally, but close enough to judge the score reasonably well. Your SF looks like this:
Sobering, isn't it!
Cheers.

Well, thank you, and also, I can do what you suggest with no effort.radjag wrote:Mike..........Well done, your shooting has improved tremendously. Good to see.

a) Print out several of these: https://www.silvercitygunclub.com/Img_Web/p75sf.jpg
b) When I shoot my "fun matches" with Tony, I'll shoot on BOTH the B-8, and also shoot on a B-16. For my friendly competition with Tony, I'll use the B-8, and for posting here, I'll use the B-16.
No, it's not "sobering" to me, not "a shock" at all. All that really matters to ME, is the size of my groups, and the dispersion of the holes within the group.
I just printed one copy of the B-16 at 100% size. I'll print more, and use them when I'm posting here.

Switched to .22 this week
Ruger Mk. II Govt. Target
Bushnell Trophy dot
Custom ortho grips
CCI SV
SF 79 1x
TF 94 2x
RF 96 3x
NMC 269 6x
Decided to try .22 with dot to see if it was more me, or more my newness with the .45 RO. Ruger has a much better trigger and grips, and the dot, so I expected to shoot it better. SF still prone to overholding and rushing a bad shot. Shot second string of SF at TF pace and did much better. Need more dry fire time and to abort SF shots before I turn them into 5s!

I printed out some B-16 targets, and will order from American Target Company as you suggested. After two days of dry-fire, I went to the range today just to shoot at my own printed B-16 targets. One target was used to sight in the gun, after which I shot two more. Then I put up a shoot-n-see version of the B-8, just to see if I had cured my shooting "wild shots". Maybe that's fixed. I'll print more B-16's today.
As to the "wild shots", while dry firing, I found a slightly different grip that may have fixed the problem.
You guys are probably going to laugh, but the reason the club went from B-8 to B-16 is "Oops, I forgot. The B 16 is for slow fire, B8 for timed and rapid. Don't have many BE shooters left so started using B8 for everything.". Then I asked at the club yesterday. They said "shooters were getting frustrated with the small targets, and were happier getting better scores on the larger targets."
Anyway, these are from this morning.
I won't do any scoring until this coming week, when we shoot another "fun match".

Re: NMC League Week 26
Mike,
Something’s not right with that target you’ve printed. It looks about one ring too big. Seems like a reduced 50 yard target. A B16 has a black 7 ring.

Re: NMC League Week 26
Thanks, deleted my old bookmark, and will print some of the correct targets later today.
I'll also order the ones suggested up above.
I didn't pay much attention to the lines and scoring rings - I just wanted to see where the holes showed up.

- (Translation - I'd rather personally be pleased that I shot well, for me, than worry about a numerical score.)
- (I figure that if I'm shooting well, the scores will take care of themselves.)
- (And I'm not pleased with how I'm currently shooting. Lots of work to be done. I'll give myself a C- as a grade.)

Mike,
That is the correct target, however pretty expensive...
Try American Target - will have to buy 250 at a minimum but a lot cheaper. They have very reasonable shipping.

Thanks; I left a phone message, and if they get back to me Monday, I'll order the 250 pack.
In the meantime, I'll print out more as needed.
When matches start up again at our club, I'll talk to the guys shooting Bullseye, one handed, 50 and 25, and see if they also want to switch.

I have no preference - but I'll assume that others in this forum are using black, so I'll do the same.
