22lr conversion magazines Empty 22lr conversion magazines

Post by Mmcavoy6 8/25/2020, 4:07 pm

So I am trying out a Advantage Arms conversion, it worked flawless for about 100 rounds then I had a failure to eject alibi 1 then I started to have a few rounds that would not chamber usually the second out of the mag it would jam the round denting it pretty good - the shooter next to me suggested I get a couple GSG magazines? I am probably not looking in the right place? Does anyone know where I might pick up a couple?

Thanks
Mike

Jageman plastic mags have also worked for me....but may be out of fear of me fooling with them.

Gun Mag Warehouse

On sale, they are around $18 and will fit pretty much any single stack 1911 frame...not just SIG or Kimber.

I've been using some of the FGW (owner of Marvel) poly mags and so far 100% reliable. https://www.shopfcwguns.com/marvel-precision/marvel-accesories-3470

I used to have a Marvel conversion that didn’t feed well until I installed a high magazine catch. Something to look at.

Mike, I had EXACTLY same problem. Fully resolved by a) cutting recoil spring by about 5mm for SV ammo and 2) GSG magazines. GSG feeds perfectly every single time, not one failure, it's quite amazing. Standard price is $25, I bought off eBay in rare black color for the same price, shipped.

Yep they fit a variety of guns and others brand them as their own, I have several that say Sig on the bottom.

Just a quick suggestion.   The GSG mags work fine.   I use them, however it is best to slingshot load your first round.    That is, close the slide, insert your mag, and then pull the slide back and release,it quickly to chamber  the first round..   Not sure why it works but apparently it keeps your second round from occasionally popping out of position as you chamber the first round.

You might find, if you do this, that your old mags work just fine.

Also another opinion on conversions.  Some of the magazines have a catch that locks back the slide on the last round.   Best advice is to get rid of that, because if it is in the wrong place, it might not be meshing correctly with the slide stop on  your particular conversion.  Just get used to counting your shots and shooting without the magazine locking back at all.

I tried everything I could on the original magazine, but every few rounds it would not feed correctly and would hardcore bend the next round. It was super annoying. I am a firm believer in finding root cause and troubleshooting, but this was so annoying and not repeatable in a controlled situation (hand cycling). GSG not just solved it, but fed more reliably than anything else I had in 22lr. I use Dan Wesson Specialist frame, so tight tolerances.

For me the best magazines for my conversion are the old Colt mags. Once i got a couple of them and tuned them a bit they have worked perfectly for years.. key word is they are tunable. Pricey yes but they work..

Gsg mags did not work in my Caspian framed Peter Stahl conversion that originally used Colt ace mags. The polymer Brownells mag work great after modding the rear of the feed lips so they don't contact the ejector.

I have tried several different magazines with my Nelson conversion. Nothing has worked as well as the Nelsons. They feed and lock back 100%, no others do.

I’m not surprised.  The Nelson magazines are good.  And the Nelson conversion has a very aggressive slide stop that will lock other magazines back even when there are still rounds in it.

Only problem is, they didn’t work with my Fung grips.  The bases are too big to seat the magazine if your grip extends at all below the magazine well.

Have 2 AA composite magazines for Nighthawk Custom conversion unit for Gold Cup. Colt metal mags work perfectly. Advantage Arms pop out while shooting and jam. Should I modify or replace with Nelson or CGC?

Try a Nelson mag, I’ll bet it works. I seem to recall the Nighthawk conversions were made by Nelson.

The Advantage Arms mags have a rectangular hole on the side that accommodates the male part of the mag release. A friend pointed out to me that it was stamped and did not have a crisp outline. I took both mags apart cleaned the inside and filed the hole to get rid of excess edges. Just back from range. They stayed in place when full, only had one failure to feed when seated with a round in chamber. Fired 80 rounds.

Makes sense. If your mags pop out then the hole is not high or wide enough to catch the mag release. You extended it up or opened up the hole. Glad it worked.
