Is my Hammerli 208 fixable?
I bought this used on Gunbroker about 8 months ago. Just discovered it's got a crack in the frame, where the ejector sits. Is this fixable? How long until the pistol doesn't work?

Could probably be TIG welded by a precision welder. Make sure the welder doesn't just weld barn doors all day or something. Light sanding and use some aluminum black and it will be usable and perhaps not too ugly. I would wait till it malfunctions till I did anything though, might run another 20k rounds, you never know.

Pullman has an excellent reputation with micro tig and laser welding which is the way to go. Check out their work on their site

Is this the older 208 that in order to remove the recoil spring and guide rod you have to spread the frame/barrel?
I would assume this is potentially why it cracked there. I doubt it will get worse. I'd shoot it as is.

I'm in the use and monitor group. If it runs ok. It has a stress relief so, as jon says, it's unlikely to get worse.

Everything I've heard is that welding doesn't work. The crack will re-appear at the edge of the weld heat zone.
I've had a cracked frame for years. It hasn't gotten worse but doesn't get much use.

I'm going to have to say Yes to this.Jon Eulette wrote:Is this the older 208 that in order to remove the recoil spring and guide rod you have to spread the frame/barrel?

Leave it as is. The crack goes into that rectangular cut so it won’t grow anymore. While it may be fixable, you could do more damage fixing it.
