I have never heard of one breaking, have put many 1000's of rounds through mine, hope that does not happen.

From research if the bolt pin breaks the bolt is not seated (supported) in the slide and the bolt pin is taking the load. KC Crawford can probably give you more information on this condition and how to correct it.

Best guess is bolt was / is loose in slide. Retaining pin was taking the brunt of recoil trying to hold bolt in place. If your bolt is loose in the slide it needs to be tightened up and then have the alignment checked with the barrel.
Re: S&W model 41 bolt pin breaking
After many 1000's of rounds, I've had an extractor break. In replacing it, I found the pin holding the slide together was broken. Perhaps your problem is related?

Re: S&W model 41 bolt pin breaking
I heard of them breaking before. You might ask KC about it. My cross pin was installed backwards so I reversed it. When I did I took out the bolt and cleaned the firing pin and extractor. My bolt was loose and came out easy. I am curious if I will have future problems with mine.
Sorry, KC I did not see you posted before me.

When I was still shooting my 41, the pin broke - no idea why, except that it's been in gun since the 1970's, and was used before I bought it. I replaced the pin, put in other new parts, and a Volquartsen extractor. The gun will probably be listed for sale here sometime in the near future. It's been replaced by 3 High Standards (one will be listed for sale) and a Nelson. I put a Clark barrel and rail on the gun, but how many 22's should a person own?
