First Match - Reloading question Empty First Match - Reloading question

Post by Hammbone Thu Oct 22, 2020 7:26 pm

I signed up for my first NRA bullseye match. Its an indoor 50ft match. I've been shooting at B2's and B3's for 8 years, so it's probably time.
Is it crazy to weigh all of my bullets and separate them to the 0.1gr and loading like bullets for the match?
I kind of started down that path with my stock of Zero 200gr SWC. I've noticed the weights range from 199.5 to 200.8 grains, with the bulk of it centering between 199.8 to 200.6.

I realize that "I" am the biggest variable in the entire equation, but I'm prone to paralysis by analysis.

BTW - I'll be using a pretty stock Springfield RO with reduced springs and a trigger job (3.5#).

At 50 feet, the minute differences in bullet weight will not affect your accuracy in the slightest.
I'll let you in on a secret - even at 50 yards, these variations will not result in any detriment to your accuracy that will be in any way comparable to the wobble of your arm. Smile

Greetings,

I have found that weighing bullets is second to "closely examining the bullet base" for defects.

The 50 foot target is actually a bit more challenging than the outdoor ones.

Have a look at the National Records and compare the scores.

Cheers,

it may be a bit more challenging, but, your 25 yard "lubed rocks" loads will take the x ring out of that 50' target if you do your part.

Hammbone:

For your first match, and most all the others after, take the time you were going to use weighing bullets and just dryfire.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I figured I was over analyzing this.
I have started dry firing. I've been working from home since March. So I actually made a post-it note with a scaled B2 dot and put it on the wall in my basement office and sit there with my 1911 and practice while on conference calls. Haha.
