Any reason not to use .45colt caliber?
I own a S&W 6.5" 25-15 that is drilled and tapped (like most newer models) for a scope mount.
It's a pleasure to shoot and sure is accurate (by my estimations)
Rather than shoot my 1911 for the centerfire strings... Is there any reason I couldn't load some of my .452 badman bullets (cast LSWC) and fire away with this revolver at a future match?
I see lots of folks shooting the .45ACP version of the model 25...
Any reason the .45colt wouldn't work? I know it will work... What I mean is... Is it less common for a reason? Case volume issues for powder? What might be the reason it is less common to use revolvers chambered in .45colt vs .45ACP?

Sure it will work. I have a model 25-7 "Model of 1989". Sweet gun. I shoot a match or two a year. My scores are the pitts. Timed and rapid I shoot double action. Using a K-38 scores are near what I can shoot with my 1911 45. With the model 25-7, my scores are much lower. Its fun to shoot now and then.

The basic issue is 1) Can you shoot a revolver well, irregardless of caliber. 2) what caliber is preferred. I thnk #1 is the bigger issue.
I'll let others discuss this particular caliber vs ACP. I have no experience there (50 yards)
You can get low recoil target loads working just fine. Remember there are 2650 revolver shooters now, just as there were 50 years ago.

IowaShooter, I'm from Iowa also, welcome to this forum. I have a friend that shoots expert with revolvers only, a 625 and a 617. He uses light loads, so light they probably wouldn't cycle my 1911 slide. His double action is staged, but he's been doing it forever and is good with it. He doesn't like the way slide gun's recoil and lock up feels like.

No reason not to give it a try.
I’ve owned 45 colts for years. I like the old cartridge. However, I’ve never been able to get one to shoot as well as a decent 1911. Maybe you can.

Just ordered (from Brownells) a Weigand sight mount for the K frame 25-15 and will put a Holosun on it (which is currently on a Ruger 22/45 I'm not using) and give it a try!

Beautiful revolver. I am some what of a Smith fan and enjoy shooting wheel guns in 2700s. You asked if there was any disadvantage to shooting the 45 Colt. Ignoring recoil (which I do) the only disadvantage is that you can't use moon clips. I have all my moon clips for the entire match and a Reeves match loaded before I leave the house. I smile and wait while the slowpokes load their magazines. You might be joining them..

If I do end up using this at a match for the centerfire strings... I'll invest in a few HKS speedloaders... about $10 each (a bit more than moon clips)
I need to test a variety of loads with either 700-X or TItegroup first... and affix my dot sight
A bit early to tell right now... just will be in the "test phase"
I was running my 1911 loads too hot and getting all "flinchy"... I've backed those down and maybe I'll be able to tolerate shooting both the centerfire and .45 portions with the 1911

Re: Any reason not to use .45colt caliber?
Here are a couple of Loads I use in my 25-2. Yep 25-2. I found a 25-3 cylinder (45 colt) that I modified to swap with my 45acp cylinder and now have a wheel gun that will do both. It was a winter project. I know I have not put it back in since I got it to run smooth. I have another 45 Colt. My other 45 Colt can handle a tad more load.
You don't want to use this load..pictured below
Unless you have the right gun.
