M-52 REAR SIGHT REMOVAL
DO THESE INSTALL LEFT TO RIGHT? OR IS THE GROOVE PARALLEL?

Re: M-52 REAR SIGHT REMOVAL
I have to remove mine to put in the mount for my Red Dot. I have never done it, but have been told that the dove tail is parallel and it can go either way. Surprisingly no You-Tube Video on it.
Also was told that there is a set screw that has to be backed out first or removed and that they are parts that might come out of the bottom of the factory site.
I ordered a sight pusher, but it has not arrived yet.

Just be cautious of a spring and plunger underneath the rear sight. Just slowly ease it off looking for it. Should come off easily after loosening the set screw.

From right to left. (As you look at the rear of the slide).

Borrow from your kitchen one of the large clear plastic cooking bags for turkeys, and from then on, to all your disassembly inside the bag. If anything does come flying off, it can't go far. If you don't have one, get a small box at the grocery store. They're very handy.
With the Model 52, you can just put your thumb on top of the slide as you're moving the steel sight off - there isn't very much pressure, so you'll have no issues.
The plunger only goes in oriented one way, with the "flat" side facing the firing pin spring. If you don't put those parts back in, the magazine interlock will no longer work, meaning the gun can fire even if there is no magazine in place. This was an important feature to police officers, maybe no big deal for others.
As noted above, once the screws are loose, the rear sight slides right off with no effort. At least it did for me.
