Need advice on undercutting my Springfield
I’m feeling like taking a file to the front strap of my Springfield Wad gun to undercut it and maybe try to cut down some of that webbed look in the frame. I’ve been shooting a gun that’s undercut and now when I pick up mine I can’t get my hand around it right. Has anyone attempted this? Any words of caution/wisdom? Thanks

Used to be an issue with being CMP compliant for DP, but apparently not any more. Personally, the undercut never really made that much difference to me. Grind away, I guess. Somebody smarter than me may have a different opinion. Based on my wife's recent comments, you probably need to listen to them.

Forgive me for not knowing, but who would be your wife on the forum (username)? And what comments did she have that might be of help? Thanks

I suggest not a file but dremel. Sure you can and should make first cuts with a file, but finish radius with a dremel. Wheels make great cuts with perfect radius for fingers. Don't go too far and you will be fine. Mask off rest of the area. Finish off by using pumice powder with water to bring back matte texture.. If not stainless but blue finish the matte will also make cold blue (rebluing) stick better and darker.
I personally love the undercuts, as much as possible.
Made STI below with the biggest undercut possible, figured if I mess up it's only like $125 lost )))

The reference was to my last "long discussion" with my wife on a different subject (she's not on the list).
She provided a very definitive opinion that she needed to hear from someone smarter than me on the subject we were "discussing".
So you might want to listen to someone smarter than me on this issue as well.

I have not personally done this specific task but I have spent a lot of time working with metal. Take your time, the old adage it is easier to remove than add is true. If an undercut works for you why not?

Dremel, not file. Don't go too high or you'll hit the trigger track. Don't go too far back or you'll put a hole in your receiver. If you're going to checker the receiver, consider how high you want your checkering to go and how thick your frame will need to be toward the top of the frontstrap.
