9mm bullet suggestion needed
I am just getting started in reloading for 9mm for EIC.
Is the RMR jacketed hollow point a good bullet for BE at 50 yds?
https://www.rmrbullets.com/shop/bullets/pistol/9mm-355/9mm-124-gr-rmr-jacketed-hollow-point-multi-purpose-round-bullets-new/#reviews
Is a copper plated bullet a good choice for BE even at 50 yds?
https://www.xtremebullets.com/9mm-124-FP-p/xc9mm-124fp-b0500.htm
How do these compare to the Zero Bullets? Will I be better off with zero instead?
Thanks,
-Trevor

Jacketed are more accurate than plated. JHP tend to be more accurate than FMJ-RN. 115 gn tend to be slightly more accurate than 124gn.
For example, in a non-accurized 9mm, I get 1-3” groups with JHP and 4-12+” at just 25 yards with plated. YMMV
Zero ate excellent.

I've never found much difference between XTP, HAP, Zero or Nosler at 50yds. All work good when fired fast enough. I have never had any luck with plated bullets. Ever.

It depends somewhat on barrel twist rate. The slower twist barrels (1:16) tend to work well with 115 to 125 gr bullets over 1000 fps MV. Faster barrels such as a Sig or CZ 1:10 do well with 147gr XTPs at 900-925 fps, and are less snappy.

Re: 9mm bullet suggestion needed
Even the best plated bullets are not as accurate as jacketed. I have had very good accuracy from the RMR Match Winner bullets, have not used their hollow points.
The owner of RMR recently posted a very good dissertation on bullet design, giving the reasons plated bullets are not as accurate. He was very objective in his analysis. He sells both plated and jacketed by the way.

Where did RMR publish the test? I looked on the RMR site and did not see anything.
Thanks

I have a 1-16 twist in my 9mm. You think 115-124 is the sweet spot? 124gr is as heavy as I can go?

The RMR dissertation was on The High Road, Handloading forum on Jan 24 this year. He goes by Longdayjake. He was answering the thread “Differences in jacketed and plated bullets “.

Yes that is what I have read, as far as JHPs are concerned.hengehold wrote:tovaert wrote:It depends somewhat on barrel twist rate. Re: 9mm bullet suggestion needed
Plated bullets no good, the plating cracks when you reload the bullet. Expanding the case versus belling can help but they still crack. Early on I bought about 2000 plated bullets because I shoot indoor and liked the idea of a cleaner bullet. My experience shooting 200 grain FP which load about the same demsoins as 185 gn JHP without changing my die set up, was 7 out of 10 would group well and then you get a crazy flyer.
By all accounts RMR makes a good bullet, I ordered the 124gn and 147 gn Match winner. I also ordered some 150gn Brazos SWC and 125gn. Everyone says coated is good for polygonal barrels if you clean the gun. I ordered a Jarvis PPG barrel and Jarvis recommended the heavier weights.
I plan on loading over 3.2 to 3.5 HG 38.

Are the RMR jacketed Bullets and Zero jacketed Bullets considered equal quality?

Although (probably) not available in the US, the bullet above has a very good reputation for accuracy here in Sweden.
It´s a variation of the bullet used in old swedish police duty ammunition, used to be made by Norma.
Price in Sweden about 159$ per 1000

added link to a page showing the norma police cartridge for anyone interested:

That is a deal at today's prices so much for the US being easy......These politicians do nothing but lie to us here in America they tell us we are eating Steak when they are serving up dog food.
Can they be exported?

Bullets coming out of Europe are regulated and not easy to get unfortunately. The famous H&N .314 bullet would sell well in the US but nobody wants to hassle with importing them.

Re: 9mm bullet suggestion needed
I tried the 124 gr RMR JHP a while ago and it was terrible out of a Beretta with (I think) a 1-18.5 twist barrel.
5.2 gr of WSF and got a dinner plate size group at 50 yard from a Ransom Rest. I didn't bother to measure the group. It was at least 10".
I still have the rest of the bullets, and a new Beretta with a 1-32 twist barrel. Haven't got around to trying them again as I have about 8000 115 gr XTP and HAP bullets on hand for that, which it shoots well.

I'VE FOUND THE BEST I COULD GET AT 50YDS WITH THE RMR BULLETS WAS 3.5-4" . THE ZERO CONICAL I COULD GET 1.5/8 -2".
THE BEST AT 50YDS WERE THE HORNADY XTP. SECOND WAS THE HORNADY HAP. BOTH SHOT UNDER 1.5". THE XTP WAS TIGHTER AND GROUP WAS ROUNDER. AND THAT WAS WITH SEVERAL POWDER COMBINATIONS AND SEVERAL GUNS.

The best might be XTP. However good luck finding. Midway has 115gr Hornady RN in stock. Limit 2. They also have 125gr XTP in .357 in stock. Same limit. I just got my 4 boxes..
