Does anyone know what the national record is for a Distinguished Revolver Match?

It’s just a CF NMC... so wouldn’t that be the same record?

No, as technically CF record could be 32/38/9/45 revolver or semiauto. DR is specifically a 38 revolver.

Phillip Hemphill 288-9X at Camp Perry during the nationals in 2009. I looked at all the Nationals match results from 2004 on. There are no DR match results prior to 2004. So for Camp Perry records at least, that’s the top score. As for other ranges, I have no idea.

This is mounted in the clubhouse of the Louisville Rifle and Pistol Club. I have no idea what the course of fire was, I assume these are 25 yard targets, fired rapid fire, with a revolver. I wonder if the guy with thumbing his hammer back, or shooting double action.

You might want to look up Huelet L. Benner and check out Gill Hebard's "Pistol Shooter's Treasury". It says Benner won the National Championship in 47, 49, (no match in 50), 51, 55, 56 and 59, Those were the days of open sights and mostly revolvers.

My Dad was his gunsmith at the AMU from 56 to 59. Dad always said that Benner could shoot 10's and X's all day long by hand but when they would Ransom rest his revolver it would not hold the black at 50 yards.

I don’t have much faith in machine rest testing.. there is a technique to it and unless down right, results can vary. In addition, I’m absolutely not saying the AMU didn’t know what they were doing back then lol they’ve always been on the cutting edge of developing what works. But I recently had my revolver machine tested and it was holding three to four inch groups. I sand bagged it and shot better. And I’ve heard of this happening on more than one occasion with other shooters across the country.

Re: DR National Record..??
One way to resolve this question (whether machine rest testing or sand bag testing) is better is to shoot multiple groups each group being 20 or more shots. Groups will be larger for both, but I bet the results will be that HM and master shooters will be able to shoot rested as well as the gun in a machine rest. Experts and below will need an optical sight.Tim:H11 wrote:Allen Barnett wrote:My Dad was his gunsmith at the AMU from 56 to 59.
