Hammerli 208 Dot?
I have my eye on a Hammerli 208. I am wondering if it’s dot capable. It does come with two original magazines. Of course I will likely have to get at least two more. Though I have read on this forum that Smith and Wesson model 41 mags can be “worked” to fit and drop freely. My current model 41 has a Vortex RD1 that I would classify as a mini dot.

I’ve been over at Larry’s guns and it does not look like they have any 208 mounts available right now. Guess I will have to wait and pass on this 208 and hope another one comes up that’s as nice as this one.

You need to email Jim and ask.
I don’t think it has a live inventory online.
His email address is there on the page.
I know he does have mags, springs kits etc in stock

This past summer I saw a giant box of Larry's Mounts at Cardinal. There is no way Jim sold them all. Shoot him an email.

I’ve looked at some close-up pictures of Larry’s amount on the 208 and off the 208. Since the weight must be removed to fit the mount on The 208, how does it affect the overall balance of the 208 cause with a mini dot installed on the mount the center of gravity is now somewhat over the grip as opposed towards the front end with the 208‘s weight.

Larry's mount has an integral barrel weight that is the same physical size as a standard 80 gram weight. I don't know if it's actually the same weight. His design also allows you to mount an additional barrel weight under the scope attachment point.

It's not. It's made from aluminum so it's lighter. But, as Dcforman says, you can attach any regular Hammerli weight to the bottom of the LGI mount.

If you can find someone local with one, see if they will let you try it. Honestly the best way as you may not get along well with one (my experience with a pardini). Just because it is the right gun for so and so doesn’t mean it will be for you.
The balance of a 208 is a very personal thing, that is why they offered different barrel weights. Adding a dot can change that balance, but you get the benefits of a dot. Also nothing wrong with shooting iron sights.
