Barrel blanks for 32ACP
Folks, for those who made their own barrels for Pardini - where did you get your blanks from? If I understand correctly, I should be looking for .310-.311 bore and 1:10 twist rate, am I correct? If yes, who sells these?
Lothar Walther lists their blanks as suitable for 32ACP but their bore is .300 - isn't it too tight for a .312 jacketed bullet?

Re: Barrel blanks for 32ACP
The bore diameter is the top of the lands. There should be a spec for groove diameter.
.311 with a 10" twist is common for a 303. Plenty of companies making those. I've been looking for a 14 twist to make a liner for a rifle, but it would be a custom. That makes a 16 twist liner from TJ's look a lot more practical.

Re: Barrel blanks for 32ACP
Greetings,
0.311" groove are available from Douglas in a variety of twists.
Krieger might machine a barrel to your custom request.
I have tried 10 twist in the 32 ACP and was unable to match the accuracy of the factory Pardini barrels.
A few weeks ago, I bought a 0.311" by 16 twist. Other projects have taken precedence and it will be a while before work resumes.
Also consider that the factory Pardini barrels are heat treated to 38 HRC +
Barrel blanks from the custom shops range from 26 HRC to 34 HRC.
416R Stainless can be had in 34 HRC. (Crucible sell it in three hardness ranges.)
If you are trying to maximize accuracy with your Pardini barrel, focus on the bullet.
Cheers,
Dave

Re: Barrel blanks for 32ACP
I trashed a reamer on a Remington 541 22 barrel. I suspect the breech end was induction hardened. Makes sense, I suppose, for a semi-auto, but this was a bolt gun. A few inches farther up it was ok. It's now a liner in an old 357 Contender barrel.
Anyway, could be the reason the Pardini is hard, better able to handle wear and tear from an extractor (do they have one?) and bolt impact. Maybe they're hammer forged?
416 can go up to about 45 Rc. I've had a number of parts vacuum hardened and they come out beautiful. Might be a chance Krieger could cut rifle one at that hardness. I kinda think it's pointless though.

I've made a couple of .32acp barrels from a chrome moly Shilen blank that was .311 groove and 10" twist. It was a standard blank that Shilen makes and was rifle length. I didn't aske about stainless; he may have those also.
