CCI SV paper vs. plastic box
Is this ammunition exactly the same thing, produced on the same line? CCI's pricing shows $4 for paper box and $12 for plastic. So 150 rds. of paper box is the same price as 100 rds. of plastic box. Champions Choice price was closer together when they had them in stock. Just curious if anyone has any inside info on this.

CCI's website used to have the ballistic data for for all of the target 22LR together and you could compare. The two are exactly the same. I suspect that any difference might be some addition QC or just a batch of the SV that the QC showed exception consistency.
It is just like looking at SV and Match. Same ballistics, same bullets and same lube. Maybe it is also just great QC data that drives the package and price.
Select used to be the only target ammo that had any variance in the SV ballistics and it is just 100 FPS faster.

Everything I have seen says they are the same thing, just variations in lots. I would not pay a premium for the plastic boxes

Ballistics on SV, Pistol Match, and Green Tag all exactly the same. I was hoping for a for sure answer rather than an "I think" answer. Anyone with the inside scoop?

Thanks DA/SA. I didn't know it was one of those sorts of things. Looks like a six year old can of worms.

Best would be to buy both and then rest 'em and test 'em with your pistol to be sure!

Re: CCI SV paper vs. plastic box
At one point and this was probably about ten or more years ago, a friend pulled two rounds apart. One from a plastic box, and one from a paper one. They did not have the same powder. But, who is to say that is the situation now? Things change.DA/SA wrote:Best would be to buy both and then rest 'em and test 'em with your pistol to be sure!

Re: CCI SV paper vs. plastic box
I have tested both and found the ammo in the plastic boxes are more accurate then the paper boxes. However, I think this is because the quality control by CCI has gone down hill. The plastic box ammo I have is older than the paper box ammo.

Fewer uncalled bad shots, fewer "clicks" and fewer alibis with 0032 than with 0035. Whatever that may mean. I won't speculate as to why. Luck, unlucky or quality control variances. Don't care. Given a choice plastic box 0032 for me, for matches over 0035 paper boxes, if available.

Re: CCI SV paper vs. plastic box
Greetings,
From what I gleaned on the BaloneyNet, the paper box CCI (0035) was "targeted" for the European Community.
Reason being is that the EU wants to cut down on plastic waste.
Is one better than the other? I say NO. Both vary based on the lot. Most often I get a good lot that functions my fussy Euro Pistol. The stuff that does not function 100% gets allocated to the wife's Walther GSP. It, the GSP, eats most anything.
Cheers,
Dave

Re: CCI SV paper vs. plastic box
I can remember a discussion here that the paper box was ‘better” than the plastic box. Now it appears that the “better” is the plastic box. So this does seem to be lot and or “era” dependent. For me, CCI SV is just training and local match ammo. For regional, state and Perry I’d like something a bit better.

Re: CCI SV paper vs. plastic box
Greetings,
I have shot CCI 0032 and 0035 since the 1970's. Even older stuff called MiniGroup SV.
When I get a request for a new 22lr barrel I test it with both CCI and TENEX. Both shoot Ten-X groups at 50 yards. Again, the groups vary with the lot number both TENEX and CCI.
TENEX does smell better when fired...
Cheers,
Dave

Re: CCI SV paper vs. plastic box
CCI paper box holds X at 50 with my pistols from a machine rest. Typically in the 0.75” range. I’ve never felt at a disadvantage using it. But I do use Tenex at big matches.

Powder weight will be different over time or lot to lot since they don't use canister grade powder. The ballistics though, should be the same.
