I take it this is in response to my other post. I never said an 850 sucks but just isn't competitive. Go shoot a big match with an 850 and see where it lands you. Personal goals and satisfaction are great but if we're being real a 94.4% with a 22 isn't all that remarkable. My PB with the 22 is an 880 which is what I've got to shoot to have any hope of ever hitting HM.

If you have been shooting 810s, an 850 would be not sucky at all.

it's all in the perspective....
850 would be pretty competitive in Marksman, Sharpshooter classification and maybe even in Expert….

The number doesn't matter. Anytime a person shoots a personal best, it's a good score. Any time a person feels like they shot well that day, it's a good score.

I shot an 850 a month or so after my 70th B'day and felt satisfied. It was the last.
It was with my .22. Strangely during my better years highs were w/ the .45. They felt better. A lot.

Like others have said - your level of satisfaction really depends on where you are in your competition journey. If you have just made it to the Expert class, or are reaching for it - shooting 850 with the .22 will feel very satisfying. If you're working to make Master, it will feel like a setback that sends you back to reexamine your mental preparedness.

Oleg.

I encourage each and every one of my fellow shooters whenever I can.
a 850 is a awesome score, respectable for a master classification.

855 would be the cut off for master.

If I shot an 850 I would be very pleased. It means I can do better. It means that I am putting things together right. I shot a personal best today in a 2700 match only shooting the .22. Personal bests have been more frequent this year. A few matches have been off my average, but overall personal bests have dominated my shoots. Am a Marksman so my 1910/2700 today was a victory, forty points above my previous previous best. A small victory, but still scores in the right direction. Now if I could just get my SF to cooperate.

850 out of what? Where is Richard Feynman when we need him? Hell, I’ll take Einstein, Bohr, Planck, Schrodinger, or Heisenberg in a pinch.

To add to this, it is more important to enjoy the match and have fun than the score.SteveT wrote:The number doesn't matter. Anytime a person shoots a personal best, it's a good score. Any time a person feels like they shot well that day, it's a good score.

I was never really satisfied with any score, back when I was actively competing. Even when shooting a personal best, there was always that drive which made me strive for a better performance. The top shooters who were regularly shooting .22 aggregates in the 890's always kept me humble and spurred me on.

I have never shot 850 so yes, I did shoot a 842 once when I was league shooting once a weak and my average was 814 it made me feel like I was starting to put the puzzle together

15 years ago, no.
Today, I'd be doing handsprings...oh wait, maybe not. Probably be happier than a 3 year old in a pound sack of m&m's.

I feel in order to be "happy" with an 850 your average would need to be 840-845.
To be satisfied would seem to me you are shooting your average.
To shoot a little above your average what ever that is would make anybody "happy".

- Show up
- Be safe
- Have fun
- Have gear that works
- Shoot well
In that order. Anything that you can accomplish beyond Step 2 is gravy.

Not sure what is the objective for this poll. I think the logical and mathematical answer can be easily arrived at:
Count number of Marksmen, Sharpshooters and Experts, and you have your HAPPY number.
Count number of Masters and High Masters - it is obvious and at least 5 points step back for them.
Overall, statistically there are many more folks on HAPPY side, especially those who are looking at 855 as the next step up.
And there are many of us who are happy with the fact that we still can raise gun, lower it and occasionally find black portion of the target to print our shots on.
So, I'm with JB on this, except for me it is 1,2,3,4. #5 is optional!

Re: How many would be happy ???? ???? with a .22 /850 score!
last season, my 900 average with .22 was 835-19x, and best 844-22x.
So 850 is a goal this year, but I will not be happy until I can shoot master scores, so >855
Really, I am concentrating on great groups and not great scores. Or so I tell myself.
