Re: New grips for the 22/45 to match RO
I like carving grips, so I usually just make what I want. Keeps my cost down and adds to the hobby. I'll have about $700 all in on this .22 (gun, Volquartsen trigger/sear/hammer, Bushnell dot, DIY grips), and only about $1050 in the .45 (used RO, EGW bushing, slide stop, and dot mount, Burris FF3 dot, DIY trigger job on factory parts). The .45 will shoot into about 2.5" at 50 yds, and the .22 so far has shown me under 1" at 50. And now they both fit my hand well, and the same. Now just to train more to be able to use that potential.

Psween,
I like your work.
I've been an amateur grip maker for awhile, just for my own guns.
I recently bought a 22/45 and have been doing some work on it, but really liked the Ruger target grips.
Mostly for the Ruger insignia carved or pressed into it.
I shot the first informal 50 ft. slow fire with it today and did ok.
I don't know if I can figure out how to post pics but I think my Mark II and Range Officer grips turned out well.

Thanks, I have been happy with how proper grip fit seems to help my scores. I mostly work only on stuff for myself too, although I've done a few sets of S&W revolver stocks to sell. Make about minimum wage when all is said and done, but helps support the hobby. Pics are pretty easy to post if you have them on your phone or computer already, just click the camera icon when you write a post, select the file, then click the blue upload button, then click send.

Your grips look great!
They also look like a more than a few hours of work with a hand grinder.
I am a firm believer that one size fits all grips, such as slab 1911 grips,
while fine for the intended purpose of that pistol work fine.
When the pistol is modified in almost every area to be used as a target
pistol, to think the slabs are fine as designed more than 100 years ago
for another purpose makes little sense to me.

For sure some amazing scores have been shot with slabs, but when you look at the very best shooters in the world, who are looking for every possible advantage, you see custom anatomical grips as much as rules allow. Besides, nice grips look good!

Hands like that are why custom grips exist. I feel fortunate that I have more medium hands, albeit with longish fingers. My 14 yo son can't even get his big hands into the grips I make for me.
