Final update-Need revolver master shooter in NoVA to test K38
I'm rebarreling a 5 screw K38 that appears to be a good candidate for a full rebuild after rebarreling. Before I spend the money on a trip to the factory I'd like to get a master shooter to test it for me.
Is there a revolver master shooter in northern or central VA or WV available to test fire the gun for me for accuracy?

I just noticed that the Camp Perry matches are on now - I don't think I'll get any responses until everyone gets home and catches up on the forum. That's OK - the gun is in the queue for rebarreling, so it won't be available for a little while.

Do you ever get out to the Fairfax, VA area? I frequently shoot at the indoor, 50yd NRA HQ Range and I cut my teeth on revolvers in Bullseye (made indoor/outdoor Master with them, took NRA Distinguished Revolver badge #82; I'm using semi-autos now since I don't have as much time to practice anymore).
Also - do you have access to a machine rest, or barring that, a very solid sandbagged rest?

Thank you for the suggestions. PM in your mailbox, sir.
Update: I'm very fortunate that this gentleman has graciously accepted the task of helping me assess this pistol when it's ready to go from the gunsmith. Thanks rvlrlvr!

Great meeting Rvlrlvr
I had a nice time at the NRA HQ range tonight. Met rvlrlvr and he gave me some advice about my K38 (and let me shoot his match gun and handloads - wohoo!) Thank you, sir, for the courtesy of meeting and giving me your informed opinion.
It seriously needs a full action job and higher front sight/ (or higher rear sight blade) to get BE loads into the X with a 6 o'clock on the black. Faster loads might also get the bullet strikes down into the target zone, but I want this gun to be for BE at 25 yds, so that's probably not the right solution.
I have to decide how to go forward. Higher (pinned) front sight seems to be a no-brainer since altering the rear sight is so much harder. Full action job is a question of getting it in line at a S&W specialist. Then, test it again...

The trigger return was 'sticking' a bit, and the single-action trigger was not as light as I normally prefer - both of those can be addressed with the proper application of a stone. I don't typically do anything for the double-action since I don't use double-action in Bullseye (and the double-action triggers for my other wheelguns are quite adequate for the other shooting I do).
It was a pleasure meeting you, Bruce!

This thread goes to zombie status while the gun goes out for the required work. Thanks for your interest.

That's quite the front sight that can do both ...

Bruce, you can't have it both ways. Raising the rear sight raises the group.
Besides DR requires a fixed front sight....

Thank you. Equipment can be fixed easier than the shooter - I have to do my part when the gun (finally) comes back.
The gunsmith found a damaged hand when he took off the sideplate. The effects a number variables, so we'll fix that, do the action job, and retest from sandbags before we do anything to the sights.

Final update - Zombie thread
I hate leaving a thread incomplete. Here's the final update.
Gun required complete rebuild with new barrel, replaced most of the innards (including the star), made it DAO for a club-level steel gun. Tested it with my old guy eyesight and had to use CTC laser grips to get a clear sight picture, gun in two hand offhand hold, generic 148gr hbwc ammo, 15 yards - I failed to do my part on every shot, did OK with a few flyers. It's not a true test for a match gun, but good for my needs and my for grandkids, so successful project all around.
I appreciate the help from rvlrlvr and info gleaned from many threads here.
