How is the best and easy way to to slug 
barrels?

Take a soft swaged bullet.  lightly hammer it on the end over a hard surface to shorten it thus making it a little fatter.  Then shove it into the chamber end and push it through with a wood dowell.

Muzzle loading .454" pure lead balls are what's in my workshop for this
