John Dworak conversion units
Does anyone know what has happened to all the parts that John would have had?
Thanks

Re: John Dworak conversion units
Thanks, Jon. I'll give KC a while to see this thread before I torment him. Even though I've got a little stash of parts for my Kart, it wouldn't hurt to have a few more of the most common parts that might fail.

Me too please. As a recent owner of KC full build on Dworak conversion I am loving the pistol, but would love to have parts in case of replacement down the road. What would be common potential issues? Firing pin, extractor, ejector...anything else with a failure potential?

Well I just got off the phone with his granddaughter. Will be a slow process, but I'm going to start getting pics/lists of what is left. We go from there.

Im still in search for aluminum scope shroud for my 6" kart. I email lot of times before he passed away and never response.

Re: John Dworak conversion units
I think Alan Aerostein at Interarms sells a Colt Ace Firing pin that works in the Kart /Dworak units. I would recommend an extractor and an extractor spring. I lost an extractor and the spring while practicing. The last extractor spring I got from John was too strong and would not always allow the slide to go into full battery. I found another but memory fails me as to what it came from.

May I ask why firing pin stop? Does not seem like a part that would break.
I would love to get extractor, extractor spring, firing pin.
By the way, what recoil spring goes into these and do Nelsons fit?

Recoil Springs can be bought from Wolff Springs. They list what is standard and sell a light, standard, and a heavy. IIRC standard is 5.5 lbs. Wolff website has the info. FYI , I run a 19 lb. main spring.

Did not hear that John had passed. I bunked with him in the huts once or twice at Perry, and ran around with that Western NY crew. Good guy.

I have known shooters that have had firing pin stops crack on the Kart units. I don't know if John used different metallurgy for his stops or not.Tripscape wrote:May I ask why firing pin stop? Does not seem like a part that would break.

Re: John Dworak conversion units
Sorry to hear of his passing. I had a few in depth conversations with him over the years about Karts and other things. I remember the first year I was tracking him down at Perry. I must have visited every hut and store on the base, trailing him like a 1940's detective from place to place where he was last seen.
Yes, Kart firing pin stops can crack and chip, just like some regular 1911 ones. The hard part is finding one that is a tight fit so it will not absorb too much of the hammer force and cause ignition issues. Usually they need to be swaged a little for a good friction fit.
