Raising SA weight on revolver
I want to shoot my 625-2 for the new CMP Service Revolver match but of course my SA is light. It needs to be 4 Lbs. I have a 13lb rebound spring in it. Go up on the rebound spring weight, replace main spring, or both?

Before I would mess with any of my guns I would wait until the rule book is available as a printed article.

Increase rebound spring. Std factory mainspring
Might work, might not.
4# is hard to achieve in a revolver
Factory pre model 27 , 2#12oz factory

I would not bring it up to 4 pounds. Those guns weren’t designed to be set like that. They came from the factory with lighter single action pulls than four pounds. I would wait for some rule revisions. Four pounds sounds excessive to me.

Heavier weight for SA on SW revolver other than springs is to alter the notch on the hammer to have deeper cut. This will mess up surface hardening which is about a thou or two. Will need to be re-hardened. Not an easy thing.

Re: Raising SA weight on revolver
Personally have handled a few 45 cal revolvers that did have a 4ish pound single action. It is a possibility but likely not the norm. Most of the 45 cal revolvers I have interact experienced were probably less than 4lbs.Tim:H11 wrote:I would not bring it up to 4 pounds. Those guns weren’t designed to be set like that. In my personal opinion the amount of weight a trigger is capable of lifting is less important than consistency, a trigger that feels the same pull after pull is where the magic happens.

I believe it's going to be 2.5lb in the published rule book.

Buy a new Colt Python. SA trigger is about 5.5 lbs!

The weight has been changed to 2.5lbs in rulebook revision 1/16/22, section 4.1.7 ,pg. 40.
