2022 SHOT Show release, Springfield Armory SA-35
I'm actually excited about this one. Always thought I would end up with a Hi Power at some point, FN has quit production and SA is releasing their own version. Has several improvements such as mag capacity increased to 15, redesigned hammer to help hammer bite, removal of magazine disconnect and improved trigger.

Not SIG but rather Springfield Armory SA-35 - https://www.springfield-armory.com/sa-35-series-handguns/

Damn I read it wrong, maybe it was a little bit of wishful thinking. Would prefer Sig but might get a SA. Sig seems to do a better job with finishes than SA.

Springfield Armory may not be Sig but everything I have from them, many of which are not Bullseye guns, are wonderful firearms. I have no issues with any of them.

weird timing, why would both release around the same time, is it a patent thing?

The FN must be twice as good based on the MSRP.....

FN has ambidextrous controls, different finish options and some checkering. Springfield's offering looks to be more "original" to the design. Both seem to be interesting options.TonyH wrote:The FN must be twice as good based on the MSRP.....

Well the FN "checkering" looks like crap, reminds me of the original checkering on the earlier CZ Shadows which was worthless. If it's not functional checkering I'd rather just have a smooth front so I can put skate tape on it. Curious to see how the triggers feel.

I did take note of the differences, including the extra magazine and added magazine capacity....not sure those justify asking almost twice the price. I suppose whatever the market will bear...chiz1180 wrote:FN has ambidextrous controls, different finish options and some checkering. Springfield's offering looks to be more "original" to the design. I think, Andrew is correct about patent expiration.

Re: 2022 SHOT Show release, Springfield Armory SA-35
The Springfield and FN sell sheets say both are made in the USA. The EAA-imported Girsan, like the Tisas BHP clones, are made in Turkey.
Sa35 also has mag disconnect removed. Curious how many parts are interchangeable between these clones themselves and between the clones and originals. SA35 can take the original mags. Can the new FN HP?
It's all just for fun until they release something other than 9mm for me. Fitting 45 or 10mm would be tough so for carry how about 32NAA or 38super?

Same could be said about a new Colt Gold Cup Trophy vs a Springfield Garrison 1911. Colt MSRP is higher than the Springfield.TonyH wrote:I did take note of the differences, including the extra magazine and added magazine capacity....not sure those justify asking almost twice the price. Someone needs to explain to this simple mind how it works to not have a mag release?

Re: 2022 SHOT Show release, Springfield Armory SA-35
It's a mag disconnect. The original design had to have a mag in place to drop the hammer. It's just a PITA.

Doh!, Like I said, simple mind. I was thinking mag release and wondering how you do without. I totally agree with the mag disconnect. I have 2 different guns that USED to have them.

That’s why they increased the mag capacity to 17 and another good reason why you should always carry a new york reload (snubbie)!weber1b wrote:Someone needs to explain to this simple mind how it works to not have a mag release?

Re: 2022 SHOT Show release, Springfield Armory SA-35
The FN doesn't even look like a HP to me. Like they tweaked one of their more modern designs for appearance.
The SA, pretty much. It's at least cheap enough to be a project piece.
I had the mag disconnect out of mine for years, late 70's with the tangent sight. Put it back in so I wouldn't lose the parts. I hardly ever shoot it anyway. My .40 has the pieces out, but it came with a box so I know where they are. Hardly ever shoot it either ...
Fun story, maybe ...
Years ago at a big rifle match, one of our club members, an FBI agent, was there with his Glock. Asked if he could use some of my ammo, all he had was the 2 mag's he carried. Sure ...
Few shots later he comes back: "What do have these loaded with?" 'Just some upper midrange load from a manual'. "I've never shot it with anything but the 'Bureau' ammo. I had no idea these things have this much power". 'Yeah, they're pretty potent'.

I'm still ecstatic to see metallic frame and hammer fired, single action guns being released though.

For sure, in the age of Tupperware pistols it's great to see interest in real quality pistols with steel frames and slides.

I recently viewed a video about some problems with the Springfield SA-35. Until those problems are addressed by SA, I wouldn't buy one, if I were in the market. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-uXqddz8qhw
