Recommendations for CMP hardball components
New to precision pistol and reloading; trying to build up experience in both. Got myself a new (to me) 1911 in .45 and training for CMP EIC matches, specifically the Western Games in Phoenix.
I was able to source a few components but pickings have been slim. Running new Starline brass, CCI LPP and a plated Speer 230gr over 5.0gr N520. With my limited time with any .45 it seems pretty accurate but I'd like to try some other recipes and components to get a feel for what this pistol and I like for ammunition.
Any recommendations for a new powder or especially a FMJ 230gr projectile? The 'pet loads' post is full of wadcutters and nothing as heavy as the 230gr required by the CMP matches I'd like to participate in.
Thanks all.

sierra 230s are good. However before committing to the 230s, exactly what matches do you think require 230 ball?

CMP service pistol only requires jacketed ammo. Most shoot 185gr JHP's. Hornady, Nosler, or Zero. I'm sure there's other manufacturers though. Must be missing someone.

The CMP games require 230 jacketed in a.45 but it’s a different gun than for EIC

Re: Recommendations for CMP hardball components
Hmmm, I must have been confusing the 230gr requirement of the 'As Issued M1911' match. Well that opens up a whole new world of projectiles. Thanks for pointing that out.
Zero seems to be sold out but I will take another look through the 'pet loads' thread and see what I can find available. I know I saw some Hornady (HAP, perhaps?) in stock locally.

I think Magnus makes a 185gr JHP.

On the 6th day Bullseye powder was created. Works great for 45 acp loads.

I'll be on the lookout for Bullseye, HP38 and WST for powders when my N320 gets low. Those seem to be the classics.
Picked up a box of Hornady 185gr XTP today and will look for the HAP versions. Midsouth has a Nosler Custom Comp in 185gr JHP but only in a 1,000 round box. Can't imagine that is a bad bullet so I may go ahead and make the investment.

Re: Recommendations for CMP hardball components
When I bought my LB I looked around a bit and the Nosler came up as the most accurate bullet available. The Sierra 230 was the EIC bullet of choice. So I have a decent stash of both, and the 230 isnt needed anymore.

Midsouth have Nosler 185JHP in bulk packs available. These seem to be the best bet on the market at present.
Zero are said to be best, but currently no stock, I called, could not give me any indication of when they might get more.
I have been told that the HAP's are no good for 50 yards.

Re: Recommendations for CMP hardball components
I currently use 4.2gr N310 and Zero 185gr JHP. I have had good success with WST from 4.2-4.5gr. I experimented with seperate loads for 25 and 50 but ultimately ended up with the 4.2 N310 for both.
