38 Special Wadcutter
I recently acquired 2 1911s in 38 Special, they are lugged ones. After going through the forums here twice is seems HBWCs are the way to go for 50 yards. Both my guns cycle good with 2.8 of WST and Zero HBWC. Would there be any reason to shoot DEWCs at the short line? There is not a big price difference.

Nope! Make it easy, and just shoot the 148's! In the past, I think most shooters using dewc on the short line did so because they could cast them for cheap.

Two 1911's in 38 special, would love to hear more about them. I have been itching for one even though I don't need one.

Summers 148 DEWC are so darn cheap, I would personally be motivated to shoot them for the short line. $49/800, 4 boxes fit in a flat rate! Thats enough motivation for me to shoot them on the short line, but i am cheap.
-on second thought... they do require a bigger powder charge to seal bore and avoid leading (3.2-3.4 wst), which would mean more recoil on the short line and having to change your powder measure.... your call.

I was thinking most guys shot the DEWC because of price, not accuracy advantage. I get Zeros at dealer cost so no difference really between HBWC and DEWC. Just wanted to confirm that HBWCs were what to load. Now I just need to learn to shoot them. They are fun but unforgiving compared to .45s.

I shoot DEWC for practice/training. Good HBWC aren’t as readily available as they once were. I usually shoot powder coated ot HiTek coated.
