Thirty years ago Remington was the stuff. Today I wouldn't walk across the street for it.

I seem to remember that packaging from the early 1980s. Could be newer too.

Is there a price tag on it?

$14.99 from a local place. What appears to be a date stamp in side showing a circle of numbers 1-12 with 85 86 87 stacked vertically inside, with a 3 off to the side.

Greetings,

Used to shoot a lot of the blue and green Remington.

First test was to see if they all went "bang".

If yes, into the Random Rest or barrel tester.

It has been a long time; but, I recall they grouped inside the X-ring at 50 yards. But this can vary lot to lot. It is marketed as Target ammo, not Match ammo.

Flashback!!! Fred Kart used to recommend Remington for his 22 conversions. Seems Remington was a tiny bit smaller and fit his tight chambers better.

Cheers,

Dave

I’m not sure when they started using that packaging but I had some like that I bought  sometime around 2012 I think.  I bought a case from cmp at Perry and used it as practice ammunition. The first half case or so shot perfect. I didn’t have any failures at all and I thought the rumors were false.  Somewhere around that halfway point (probably 2-3 years of storage on my shelf) I began to get failures to fire.  A lot of them would fire on a 2nd or 3rd try. My suspicion was that the primer compound broke down over time.  Once it became unreliable, I just used it for plinking ammo and then when the pandemic hit, I sold the last three bricks on armlist to get rid of it.  It’s too bad because when it worked, it shot as well as ccisv.

Good luck.
John

Just go out and shoot it.  I purchased a case of older Remington SV Target from the CMP and my lot is awful stuff. Lots of misfires in rifles, even less reliable in pistols with their weaker ignition systems.

Take a look at the extreme spreads of Rem Target compared with good match ammunition.

So... practice fodder! Nothing wrong with that. Got plenty of match ammo, just curious how "good" this was! Thanks!

Dave

Edit: BTW, Bridgeport stuff...

When you said old rem ammo I was thinking you meant something with the dog bone label.  What you have is from when I was in my 20's so it can't be old  Smile  That being said I used to shoot that ammo all the time in my Rem 541 and my S&W 17 and it was decent ammo for the price.  Like others said use it for practice and go from there.

In my youth, in UK around 1978, they used to sell this label in 100 round plastic boxes, it did not shoot as well as Eley Club (which was the "standard" at that time in UK), but we all used to buy a few boxes of the Remington to shoot in practice and keep the very nice 100 round plastic boxes!

I know, we were cheap back then!

I still have a few of those very nice 100 round plastic boxes.  I've been carrying them around for 40+ years.  Wish I had a few more.
