Muffs w/ commands app at public range
I am currently using the Howard Leight impact pro muffs with a third party gel ear pad. They are fantastic in almost every way. The gel makes them super comfortable, and the 30 NRR rating is very helpful. The downside is the audio in line. It's barely negligable. When I use the bullseye command app to train at my local range I cannot hear the commands at all if anyone else is shooting. Does anyone have a set of muffs they can recommend with a higher NRR rating and a very good internal speaker? Or maybe a preferred muff/plug combo?

I assume these are bluetooth for the audio input? If so, have you turned up the phone's bluetooth volume? It's separate from the other volume controls, and it only appears when a bluetooth audio device is connected.

The impact pro are not Bluetooth. They have a standard 3.5 input Jack.

Just realized you are the creator of the current app. I should specify this is not app specific. Anything that I hook upto the 3.5 Jack is too low to hear when others are shooting at the range.

I use one airpod. Fits ok. I’m sure there are other Bluetooth options.

These work well. A little costy but they're a pretty good secondary noise defender as well.

I had the same problem with those muffs. I purchased the Peltor bluetooth headset that goes for around $100-120 online and with 24db earplugs in underneath them I can still hear the range commands app at indoor ranges as long as someone isn't banging away next to me with a high energy cartridge. Been using them for a couple years. Top strap tends to hurt my scalp but rest of the set I'm happy with (and developed tough scalp )

Use AirPods too. Also gives you the benefit of additional noise reduction.

So simple, yet I never thought of it. I think my wife had a pair of Bluetooth headphones. I'll give them a try!

I use these Bluetooth muffs for range commands and while woodworking:

I can put earplugs in and still hear the commands from the app.

What third party gel pads do you use on your Leights?

You might have to go to your settings, go to volume and raise the media volume setting, it might prompt you to another pop-up, click yes. My Samsung s7 requires that procedure anytime I plug in a cord, but my phone is an older one.Jwhelan939 wrote:The impact pro are not Bluetooth. They have a standard 3.5 input Jack.

Low volume from plugged-in devices is often because of regulatory limits which have been mandated in some devices in certain markets. Without knowing what brand and type your phone is, it's not possible to be specific, but there are usually ways to work around these.
Using Bluetooth is a simple way though. Because it's used for speakers etc which don't have such restrictions, the phones don't enforce limits.

Re: Muffs w/ commands app at public range
So, funny story. Went to try the muffs on my phone again to see if any settings came up. Has been a few months since I tried. Well in that time I switched from a Samsung Note to an iPhone max pro 12, and apparently the dang thing doesn't have a headphone Jack. Guess I'm not trying that again. In the meantime I tried my wife's airpod things and they work fantastic!
